Re: Jewish Brides

Ok-- i have a question for Jewish brides.. What things don't we do, that most other people do at a wedding.. Like I know typically, there are no favors at Jewish weddings, etc.

From girls who know, or newlyweds, share your knowledge... I think it helps to know what things we DON'T have to worry about..

Re: Jewish Brides

I'm giving favors. Just because I have never been to a wedding that I haven't gotten a favor so.........I figured what the heck. Also, I'm not doing a rehersal dinner. The rabbi I am using is not doing a rehersal just going over it right before the wedding. Other than that, I also would be interested in reponses to this question.

Re: Jewish Brides

We are still doing a rehearsal dinner-- it's just not for rehearsing-- it's more about spending some time with the peopel closest to you before the next da- which will be crazy!

Anyone else have any pearls of wisdom to share??

Re: Jewish Brides

Not doing a rehearsal dinner, we're not doing favors per se, but we might have a cigar roller there for the last hour and a half rolling cigars with our initials and wedding date on the bands.....Um...I can't think of anything else...

Re: Jewish Brides

I didn't do rehearsal
Relatives came over my mom's the night before to hang out...

We did favors, thanks to searsc - we had black & white cookies w/ our monogram on it -we weren't going to do anything but being that I was proposed to w/ a b & w, it made sense & everyone loved it!!

Re: Jewish Brides

We didn't do favors, although at the end of the reception the centerpieces were broken down so that the women all left with flowers.

We didn't have a rehearsal dinner. Brad's auf ruf was the day before, so we saw all of the family then and had a nice Kiddush.

We also didn't do programs, although most of my Jewish friends did.

Re: Jewish Brides

pickles16 - hi, how are you?

Are you able to bring in outside food considering your wedding is kosher? I was told I cannot bring in any food as it won't be blessed by the rabbi at my temple.

BTW, went to a wedding at temple beth el this past weekend and it was gorgeous!

Nenna, our rabbi was great. Are you looking for a reform rabbi or a conservative one? FM me if you need more information.

Re: Jewish Brides

I am Jewish and my DH is not so we had an interfaith ceremony with a cantor and a reverend. I did a pretty detailed program because I wanted wedding guests to understand customs and traditions from both of our faiths.

Re: Jewish Brides

My FH and I just met with a rabbi who we really like, he said he charged $600. Is that standard, high, low? Please let me know.

Re: Jewish Brides

I am Jewish, my fiance is converting. Why do Jewish weddings not have favors? I'm fine with that, but my FIL's are obsessed with all the stuff that they 'know is always at weddings' that won't be at our wedding. Like a table with shellfish, antipasto, etc. or even a rehearsal dinenr. ARGH...this is much harder than I thought it would be!
