Re: Jewish Brides

I'm not really sure why Jewish Weddings do not traditionally do favors. I think it is just that in other faiths it is more traditional to DO favors rather than the other way around. Sorry if that doesn't make sense!! I'm sure your FIL will understand that you want to incorporate both of your faiths and backgrounds. It isn't as if you CAN'T do the favors if they insist.

Re: Jewish Brides

OK, thanks.

Anyone know how much favors usually cost? I know I'm thinking very far ahead--I have to stop doing that!

I agree. I think it's just more of a tradition for other cultures to do favors. I've been to Jewish weddings where there are favors, and others where there aren't. As you know, we didn't have any, but we had the centerpieces broken down at the end of the wedding so that all the women left with some flowers - everyone loved that.

Re: Jewish Brides

It's going very well. We're both very excited about it.

We're both very excited to raise our family with Jewish beliefs. His parents never pushed it or were upset that I wasn't Jewish. However, they were VERY excited that I decided to convert. It's a great experience for the both or us b/c we're actually getting to know each other better at our classes.

It's actually kind of strange that I was so drawn to Judaism... I found out that my fathers parents (we were never really all that close with them) were in the Holocaust and they were Jewish. I lost them both in 04 and got a copy of my family tree... everyones last name was Hoffman and Feidler. It was pretty interesting. And, interestingly enough, I have a fairly uncommon last name and I've met a couple of people with my last name and they're Israeli.

Re: Jewish Brides

Shalom!

As far as my Rabbi goes, hopefully (fingers crossed) we're going to use my FMIL's cousin's husband. I'd rather go that route than rent a rabbi.

Maybe. However, with all the candlesticks I have and the challah board, I still don't use them as often as I should. I did the first few weeks of marriage..that was it!
