JEWISH PREGGOS or MOMS, Shower Question???

Original post by shamma

Please enlighten me here, do they give you the shower after the baby is born??? do they give gifts etc?? Can others who are none Jewish, friends and family give you a shower?? I know we did for a lady here at the job, but I don't think the lady who organized it, knew anything about no showers for Jewish preggo ladies.

I think it is something mommies look forward to, I think it is a nice way to welcome the baby in to the world and help the new parents out.

I am jewish and fell that the whole buying before the baby is born is stupid. I really wanted a shower but my MIL is VERY aganist it... my mother was all for it.. but since i am very close to MIL she is going to respect her wishes..But i have already bought clothes( who can resist a bargin...) and they ar ein my garage in a trunk. I kow my family memebers will buy the things we need if not we are going to buy it ourselves becasue we are going to need things when she is born..(infant car seatr, bath, etc...

we are going to do something after the baby is bron...invite people over to see her....

My mother is Italian and does not believe in baby showers either. I am disappointed and relayed that to her, but I don't know if it made a difference. I don't think I will be having a shower.

Gosh I am glad your mom is thinking about it, I just don't understand that tradition. Baby Showers are wonderful.

I am italian and they wanted me to wait...and then my mom was so excited that she had it anyway.

Tammy, isn't it that you just shouldn't have the stuff from the shower in your house until the baby is born? If that is the case then to make mom happy just let her bring home everything until the baby is born.

I am not sure - I think it is both, no shower before and no stuff in the house but I said it earlier she can keep the majority of non-essentials if she wants considering neither me or my mom are very religious, I dont know why she even concerns herself with these so called 'superstitions'

Re: JEWISH PREGGOS or MOMS, Shower Question???

I am Jewish and had a aby shower 2 weeks ago. My husband is not Jewish. My mother was all for it and all the gifts asre in my house BUT there is NOTHING in the babies room yet. The furniture will be delivered when I am in labor and that's that.

My grandmother who is religious at 93 years old asked her rabbi who said ther eis no religi0ous reason whatsoever not to have a baby shower. It is all tradition and superstition so poeple should do what feels best to them in my opinion.

I had a grat shower at Nocello's in Northport and got everything my girls could need. Now if the'd just come out already!!!. I will be 36 weeks on Tuesday.

one of my GF's is jewish. not only did she not have a shower, they did not even begin to set up the baby's room until after the baby was born! she was in the hospital after the birth, and her DH and her brother were home painting the room!!! any items she had received prior to the birth were stored in her mother's garage, so her mother was washing everything and trying to get everything set up. i don't know when they had the time to visit my GF in the hospital, they were all so busy doing stuff!!
