Re: Just got engaged...let the planning begin!
Hi,I just want to let you know that the shorter you make your engagement, the more catering halls are willing to give you a good deal. I got engaged in January and booked June 13th for my day. I was surprised to see how many halls were calling me after I met with them to give me even a better deal than originally quoted without me even asking. When you look 5 -6 months down the road to book, halls look at those days as lost already because not too many people are going to book that quickly. They would rather give you a good deal and make money than to make nothing on that day which will probably happen if it hasn't been booked at this point. I had the Watermill and Cresthollow call me numerous times telling me they can give me a better deal than quoted.

Re: Just got engaged...let the planning begin!
Congrats!!!
It is such an exciting time. I went to 9 reception halls before I booked because we were also on a tight budget. The average hall in Suffolk County is $65-$90 pp. I wrote out a list of halls with costs and set aside time to visit. Try sitting in the brides chair in the hall when you visit to get the view of what you will almost feel like. You will hear alot of things, so go with ideas that are important to you and your FH, without being able to taste the food. For us it was the dance floor, general lighting and decor. Also, some halls offer lower rates pp. depending upon the time of day and the actual day you choose. Do a search on the this site to get an idea on some halls. It may help. Congrats again and good luck. These boards helped me a lot!!!
