Re: Just got engaged...let the planning begin!
I had a short engagment (5 months), if you get married in September thats 6 months - you have time to get it all done, don't worry.I found in searching for a hall that I needed to be flexible with my date. (I had a march, sunday afternoon wedding)

Congratulations! I'm no good at 'haggling' either... I always go places with a friend or family member who is, though!

Hi, congratulations! My girlfriend got married in only a few months, it's very doable. she got a lot of her stuff at Fabulous Favors. I know that when you deal with the catering hall make it clear to them that you're not getting help from anyone else and if you're getting married so quickly and the date is still free then you're kind of doing them a favor by filling it.
Good luck.

Re: Just got engaged...let the planning begin!
Hey 9/24/04 That is my date! If you plan on using that date it may be helpful to know that it is the night before Yom Kippur. I think (correct me if I'm wrong) that Jewish people fast after sunset? So it may be hard for a catering hall to book that date because no Jewish people would book or attend an event that night. They may offer you a great price knowing how hard it could be to book the date. Also keep in mind that most people book their halls a year in advance. Since you are only 6 months away the halls know that with every day that passes their chances of booking the hall goes down. I think that if they make you an offer, you shoudl say something like, 'Well, we were looking to spend more like $XX' And they just may (probably will) accept. Good luck and FM me if you need any more help. My FH and I negotiated on almost everything!Julie

CatsMeow, I think you made a mistake entering your engagement/wedding dates! You got married in 1995 and engaged in 2004?

Re: Just got engaged...let the planning begin!
Congrats! When I first got engaged...I loved the Thatched Cottage...but they have a 100 person minimum and I asked if they would lower it to 75 and they told me...so I never looked there.
If you're willing to do a Saturday afternoon...the Riverview Restaurant was nice..that was our second choice. Good luck!!
PS. I planned this wedding in 7 months...so you should have no problem doing it in 6.

I think she was looking for catering hall info - this is reeking of a vendor - please respect all the brides privacy.

Congratulations and welcome!!! Happy Planning! You can definitely negotiate since you are having a short engagment. My bro and sil planned a wedding within 6 months - and they got an unbelievably low price at the Jericho Terrace on a Friday night.
Good Luck!

Re: Just got engaged...let the planning begin!
I totally agree with Julz. The fact that you will be booking with such short notice can work to your advantage as long as you are flexible with the date since you'll have to take whatever they have open for the time period you are looking.Good luck and congratulations.

Re: Just got engaged...let the planning begin!
I would also go to:www.fireyourweddingplanner.com
That lady gives some good insprational speeches when it comes to not being a typical 'nice' bride!
When you have a hall, you can also look at my webpage for vendors:
Page
I made it for brides on a budget.
And get the book 'Bridal Bargains'
And get EVERYTHING you can stand on eBay, everything you can think of.
Welcome!

Re: Just got engaged...let the planning begin!
We originally wanted to get married in April which would have been an 8 month engagment and alot of halls had lower prices becuase of that! most people book their weddings over a year in advance so there is more room for negotiations when its closer to the date!!!Try Meadow Club I am getting married on a Saturday night in JUNE and we are getting a price in your range!
Also, if you are set on getting married on the water, I am hearing alot of great things about Sunset Harbor in Patchogue (I think thats where it is)
Good Luck
Oh and how did you get engaged? We love stories!!!!
