we had 2 people show up with gifts from our registry.
as for stiffers, we had another two (one being the best man) but they both claim to just have forgotten, but its ben 47 days and no card.
That is ridiculous..... I would never go to a wedding empty handed!!!! Hopefully he;s not married so you guys can return the favor some day

We actually got a lot of stiffers...but a lot of people were also very generous. I don't want to sound greedy, but DH and I were actually shocked at some of the gifts (e.g., my MOH--who just got married a year ago--gave DH and I $20, and one of my friends gave us a lotto ticket). DH says that wedding gifts are different when you live out of Long Island, but still..

Out of our attendees, we had three people not give us gifts and unfortunately we received the bare bones left on our registries as well - I'd say about 7 people got us gifts that we didn't really want at all.
My brother got us a brick at Citi Field though, which was an incredibly thoughtful gift!
And the rest gave us $$$.

I agree! My stepdad told me that his co-worker spent over $80k on his wedding a couple of years ago, and only received about $5k in gifts, and the most he received from a coupl was $100. The wedding was at a hotel in the City. I don't want to sound greedy, but I think they can do a bit better than that.

For those brides who didn't receive anything from guests, did you write a thank you?

Re: just out of curiosity for girls who are already married
for my coworkers wedding I actually left my card at the hotel and was so embarrassed. I told her right away. So I would say that it is possible to forget it especially for those oot weddings. Since it was upstate and they had shuttle services to/from the hotel and reception I couldnt just go back and get it. However it was waiting on her desk when she got back from her honeymoon.
In regards to not getting gifts at engagement parties, I have some family members that just dont believe in giving gifts for that occasion, so when i didnt get gifts from them i was not surprised I didnt get anything but congratulations and good wishes from them.

I once gave a gift worth only 100 as a BM but only cuz I was broke after we paid for her shower, her bach party trip SHE wanted which some people got away without paying as much, and expensive BM dresses.. I think that was OK but I would never do NOTHING. I had it delivered to her house.

It seems to be kind of common for people to not get gifts from all wedding guests. My friend didn't get gifts from many of her DH's fam. One gave a card with a prayer in it. A prayer is great but it's not gonna pay for their plate.

Yes. You still need to thank them for attending.

Different maybe, like $100 vs $150 for a single person, but NEVER a lotto ticket (unless you were sure it was a winning one!!!)
My sister had a bridesmaid not give her anything...
i dont' get it!!!

Re: just out of curiosity for girls who are already married
this thread makes me ssooo nervous
my entire family (excluding my parents) gave us 0 for our eparty...
my cousin who is 30, good job, engaged to an italian chick (who told me it ws rude and bad luck to not invite kids to a wedding) gave me $50 for the 2 of them and their kid!!!!!!
i wasnt too upset at the moment, but i was embarrassed....fmil was watching like a hawk and made a comment at the end of the party... i hope my fam has more class at the wedding to at least bring a gift

Re: just out of curiosity for girls who are already married
Yes, I had a few people show up with actual gifts at the wedding.
We had quite a few people not give anything and some people who we expected to give us more gave us next to nothing. However, there were so many super-generous people that it all evened out.
It helped that at the end of the day, DH and I knew we weren't going to make any money at our wedding. When we decided to do the whole big wedding thing, we decided that if when it was all said and done we were out of pocket $10,000 (including the HM), it would be worth it to throw a kick a$$ party.
At the end of the day, I think we made back all but $5,500. It was still the most incredible day and if we could do it all over again, we would.

You have to figure many guests may not bring a gift or anything because they are probably tight with money. Same with bounced checks. People dont have as much to spend as the used to and some people are just cheap.
FMIL told us to just remember that if we get stiffed to remember that our guest's presence should be gift enough for us. Blah blah blah.

Re: just out of curiosity for girls who are already married
Quite a few guests sent us gifts from our registry ahead of time and one person brought her gift...as for 'stiffers', I'm still in shock over a year later, but we had one...my FIL!
