Just Wondering.... Any Caribbean/West Indian Brides 2013/2014?

Hey Hey Hey to my fellow Sistrens!

I noticed an older West Indian Bride Thread from 2010. I was wondering are there any current Caribbean Brides getting married this year or Next Year?

Are you giving out black cake? FH's mom is so excited to make it. I'm letting her go for it because she has been trying so hard to be involved in planning but i'm too much of a control freak!

You know what's funny? I didn't want to give out black cake. I wanted to try something different and my family and sister gave me the 'Screw face' and told me to stop playing! LOL I'm trying to get my Mom to make me a carrot cake. Her carrot cake is my favorite! She spices it up with rum!

I hear ya on being in control. I like things in order myself! Let Momm-in-law make the cake since she's offering. My Mom is kissing her teeth, saying that's too much carrot to grater! LOL But my FH's aunt will make the black cake.

My family is from Guyana. My FH is american and at the tasting his father already asked my mom will there be black cake. We all looked at him like what do you know about black cake.... It's kinda hard to explain some of our traditions.. Are you guys having a que-que instead of a rehearsal dinner? I don't know if that's a Guyanese thing or a WI thing.

Very Nice! Love you GT peeps! I have a couple of close friends that are from Guyana! ;o) Oh what is a Que-Que? Is that a traditional family gathering before the wedding? We do want to have a dinner where our two families link up.

my aunt is making black cake so I'm excited about that!!!! I don't know what a que que is...but we're having a small party the week or so before the wedding...just so family that hasn't met get a chance to do so.

@LadyBuggz yes it's the traditional family gathering before the wedding instead of a rehersal dinner. Family cooks I think there is a drummer involved. I only went to one but my mom is pushing it like everything else. To be honest I don't want black cake... We just go rid of what we had for Christmas. But people expect it. I can't stand to hear 'where di blac cake???' 'How you mean?' LOL

Lmao! I don't want the black cake either. My FH's aunt sent me one for Christmas and my birthday!!! So I'm too through with it. I prefer a pineapple filling cake or carrot cake.

That sounds like a nice tradition. I know my cousin who's hubby is from Ghana, they do that traditional Dowry celebration, where his family gives her family money, etc before the wedding. And they dress up in the nice garments.

That's great! Are you making that your wedding cake or as favors for the guests? We are doing the same thing, like a family 'Meet N Greet'. :o)

Hey girls, I am a 2013 guyanese bride and my FH is from Trinidad! :) We are doing the black cake-- I didn't want it, but it is tradition so I am giving in to my mom. Also I heard it signifies good luck/happiness so why not!

Hi Amanda!

Welcome Sistren! Big up to Trinidad and Guyana! You guys are representing! Oh I didn't know that's what the tradition of black cake meant. I thought my family just love the rum part of it! LOL ;o)

If you are going with the black cake, do you give an addition favor to guest???? Also I was debating about a photo booth, but I'm not sure if my family would be bothered. Glad to find some girls who are familar with our crazy culture!
