Re: Kate- are you ready for low carb?
I've been a low-carber for 6 months. I'd love to join this group thread! Low-carb has been the all time 'easiest' to stcik with and I think I've done most programs, WW Body for Life, etc.
The weight just kept coming on after I left the security/routine of high school track... Now I'm back on track, 33 lbs lost and 20 more to go.....

Hey 33 pounds! That is great.
I had a little slip up this weekend- actually, the whole weekend was pretty much a slip up.. I don't know what that's about.. but it's in the past- back on track today....

Re: Kate- are you ready for low carb?
Michelle, Scott and I started doing low carb and are having the same problem! I need something easy to eat in the morning, or that I can bring to work. I looked online at the Atkins site and saw there is an Atkins store in Ronkonkoma. I think we're going to take a ride over there to check our some of their low carb stuff.

I can cleary see that Saturday and Sundays are going to be my days off! Had a few drinks, and corn and ice cream last night. Some cookies, ugh...
Light and sweet coffee this AM. Right now I'm having cantaloupe and an iced coffee w/splenda & H&H
Michelle - I've been living on melon in the mornings..., maybe make egg salad with the eggs.

Re: Kate- are you ready for low carb?
I had a strawberry smoothy- it's a little bit of a cheat w/ the skim milk- but I was HOT!
For breakfast I also eat cold cuts sometimes.

Re: Kate- are you ready for low carb?
I need to get some of those WASA crakcers, I am very DETERMINED to do this the right way..I notice I feel so much better when I don't eat the obvious carbs..breads, pasta, potatoes, etc.
My only downfall is I love pizza

Can you not have whole grain carbs either? I need to cut back on carbs but would prefer to keep whole grains in for the time being..

Re: Kate- are you ready for low carb?
the Wasa crackers kick butt- I brought an egg/tuna salad combo w/ 2 wasa crackers and a cucumber/tomato salad- yum!
Yes, no milk, skim etc- only 1/2 & 1/2 or heavy cream... which I cannot eat regularly- just a drop in my iced coffee...
I also feel better w/o the carbs...
I didn't eat bad @ meals.. just snacking like a banshee- i'm a dorito/popcorn lover.
BY THE WAY- the fiber rye wasas are only 5 carbs each.

Can I join you ladies too?
I am thinking about doing the Atkins diet but not to the extreme. First off, which is the most updated book I should buy? How many carbs per day can we have?

Re: Kate- are you ready for low carb?
Hi- WELCOME- the more the merrier...
the amount of carbs a body can take varies- we are all different... I can eat a little more than my DH for example.
To start- I think it is best to stay between 30-40 grams per day... so- that would be the equiv. of 1 apple.
You want to eat lean meats and limit anything with nitrates (hotdogs, bacon, etc)... and keep your cheese intake to 2-3 ounces a day if at all.
I eat unlimited non-starch veggies (eggplant, lettuce, cucumbers, peppers, squash, etc)... and unlimited lean meat (chicken, fish, pork & certain red meats).
Good fruits are all melons and berries- keep intake to 1 cup per day to start.
I do not eat anything 'white' - sugar, flour, etc...
NO milk products except the occassional 1/2 & 1/2 in coffee... and
TONS OF WATER....2 liters a day to start.

Re: Kate- are you ready for low carb?
I'm very lucky with my lunchtime options. My work cafeteria has an 'Atkins diet' daily menu item. While I usually have a Atkins protein bar for lunch some days, like today, I crave 'real food'!
Today, garlic chicken w/ small green salad and olive oil vinagerette, very yummy.
Tonight I'm making corriander chicken for dinner with a Indian spiced spinach.

Re: Kate- are you ready for low carb?
I'm confused I love the protein bars but have read on other sites that they actually are not the best choice. Can anyone clarify this
