So a relative asked me yesterday why I was having a church ceremony if I don't go to church!!! Now I feel guilty because I recognize that I do not go to church that often but I do attend.
Anyone run across this catholic guilt thing???

Re: Ladies having a church wedding?
I feel guilty... but I don't. I know I have a pretty busy schedule and the priest marrying us said it himself, everyone works, everyone has families, not everyone can make time to attend mass. But when you CAN attend mass.. try to.
I'm sure you wouldn't be getting married in a church if it didn't mean something to you.

I do attend church regularly and I opted not to get married in a church or have a full mass so it kind of works both ways.

if you dont do it in a church the church doesnt recognize you as married...just be prepared for them to annoy you a bit about y you dont go.

I don't get to go often, but it was important for me to get married in a church. Just because we can't always get there doesn't mean we aren't practicing our faith. People need to just keep their mouths closed. Uhhh!

Re: Ladies having a church wedding?
I do not think you have to be someone who attends Mass every week in order to get married in a church. I do not attend church regularly at all, but I am a deeply spiritual person. Christianity to me is about following Jesus' commands to love one another, not about going to church.
Don't sweat it at all! We are not getting married in a church for a couple of reasons, one being that since the wedding is in CT, we want to keep everything as contained in one location so people aren't getting lost everywhere.

Personally, I think it's sac-religious and a little hypocritical to have a church wedding if you don't go to church.

Is it possible to get married in a Catholic church without both the bride AND groom being Catholic? I thought both had to be baptized by the Cath. church. I can be completely wrong (I'm not Catholic!), but I always thought that was a rule in the Catholic church.

hmm, it might be that way in NY, but I live in PA. I just have to be a member of the church and we must attend pre-cana classes.

I must disagree. I don't believe you need to attend church every week just to be considered practicing a faith.
I went to religion classes all my life, was baptized, received communion, and was confirmed. I couldn't imagine not getting married in a church. But do I go to mass every week.....no. But does that mean I don't believe in God? Nope.

I think that as long you agree to raise your kids Catholic, it's fine if only one of you is Catholic.

You both need to be baptized into one of the Christian faiths. At least one of you needs to be Catholic.
You don't need to, but it helps to be confirmed.
I'm doing RCIA right now to finish my confirmation though I could get married even if I didn't do it.
