Ladies having a church wedding?

Original post by RGEC47

So a relative asked me yesterday why I was having a church ceremony if I don't go to church!!! Now I feel guilty because I recognize that I do not go to church that often but I do attend.

Anyone run across this catholic guilt thing???

im not even catholic and im getting married in a catholic church because FH is catholic and thats what it want. It feels like the right thing to do

Is it possible to get married in a Catholic church without both the bride AND groom being Catholic? I thought both had to be baptized by the Cath. church. I can be completely wrong (I'm not Catholic!), but I always thought that was a rule in the Catholic church.

I think that as long you agree to raise your kids Catholic, it's fine if only one of you is Catholic.

yea...

Personally, I think it's sac-religious and a little hypocritical to have a church wedding if you don't go to church.

you're an idiot.

I think one has to be catholic, and both have to be baptized Christians. The catholic church recognizes all baptized christians, except for Mormon's and jehova's Witnesses.

Check it out, I did learn something!

You're overly harsh. Just because i am a God-loving woman does not mean I am an idiot. Personally, I believe God wants us to serve him by attending church regularly. I believe if you have a church wedding, you are asking God to bless your marriage in his own house. To do that, you should be a regular visitor there. My future in-laws feel the same way about their house...if I want them to approve of mine and FH's marriage, then I need to be a regular visitor at his parents' house. I think it's a similar concept.

Ummmm she didn't say you're an idiot because you are a god-loving woman....you are an idiot because you don't know how to behave yourself in a public forum. I promise you that the way you are behaving is not very 'god-like' and if you feel that it is then maybe you need to have your head examined.

GO TO THE 2011 BOARDS...WE DONT WANT YOU HERE.

If you were a God-loving woman you would know the proper use of the term sacreligious!

I don't get to go often, but it was important for me to get married in a church. Just because we can't always get there doesn't mean we aren't practicing our faith. People need to just keep their mouths closed. Uhhh!

nice!
my parents are very religious... even tho i do not go to church, it was important to them for me to get married in a church and to have a full mass. and even our priest told us.... you go when you are a child cause your go with your parents and in our young adult life most of us don't... then once we have kids most people start going again. its a cycle and many us fall into it. so just b/c we don't go does not mean we don't practive and believe in other ways!

Re: Ladies having a church wedding?

Ob Boy... hot topic.

So, I too often feel Catholic guilt... for many things... But I wouldn't feel guilty wanting to have a church wedding. I believe God is everywhere, if you are a good person, have faith and live your life accordingly, you're clear. 'God' is forgiving, open and welcoming, as is the church, his home. Religious people that do not hold their tongue and pass judgement often find themselves in a confessional...

Please don't let someone else make you feel guilty...

You both need to be baptized into one of the Christian faiths. At least one of you needs to be Catholic.

You don't need to, but it helps to be confirmed.

I'm doing RCIA right now to finish my confirmation though I could get married even if I didn't do it.

Very interesting! You learn something new every day .

I feel no guilt! FH and I rarely go to church but his family would be really upset if we didnt do it in a church so we are.

Re: Ladies having a church wedding?

I understand where you are coming from! People should just mind their own business. I had the opposite problem. We were both raised Catholic and both had all our Sacraments including Confirmation, but after that we both stopped going to church. We don't go to church now or consider ourselves religious. For that reason, we felt that it would not be right to get married in a church. We just didn't feel right, I don't know...It was NOT what my mother for sure wanted to hear, or his mother, but it was our decision. People wanted to know up and down why we weren't getting married in church. Especially ALLLL my mom's family in Argentina. Anyway, if you feel you want to get married in a church, that's your decision! Be proud of it, and don't let anyone bring you down. For some reason it seems, many people have snooty or negative input to give to brides-to-be, and it's best to just give them the big fat ol INGORE!!!!
