Disregarding whether or not you'd be interested in having a reception there, I need to know how many people consider the LOCATION of Vineyard Caterers (just past Riverhead at the fork) to be too far away to have a reception. In other words, would you consider having a reception in that area, or would you rule it out based on location alone. Thanks ladies!

As long as you can block room at a somewhat nearby hotel if people want to stay over..Def do it...

Re: Ladies, please I need your help.
Being that Fh and I (and our families) mostly live in Queens (and not Long Island- like alot of the people on this site) FH and I did not look at any places in Suffolk County at all.
We are invited to several weddings that are out there and we're going to go...But location was definitely a big factor in the decision making process when we were thinking of where to have our reception.

Re: Ladies, please I need your help.
it depends where you are coming from. my family and fh's family are all from queens, nj, staten island... it would be kind of far... but if alot of people are out on LI its not so bad. I know i was considering a place I LOVED in NJ... but everyone started complaining about the drive ( 40 fricken min!!) so i was like forget it its not worth the stress

It's past where the LIE ends. I know it's my wedding, etc. but the purpose of this poll is something else entirely. I'm just looking for your personal opinions and I'll explain in another post. Thanks!

Depends on where your guests are coming from...Are you in Nassau or Suffolk? Are you having the ceremony somewhere else? If you are, and it is far away, I have heard people complaining about having to drive a long distance between the ceremony and reception. You might have many people skip the reception. I personally wouldn't mind...

well if its past where the LIE ends...then in my case its too far..... I was considering booking Villa Lombardis and my whole family said thats too far...(Im from Queens, and I'd have family driving in from NJ too)....
but if most of your guests are in LI already then I don't see what the prob is.

Re: Ladies, please I need your help.
As long as it's not a holiday weekend and there is nothing going on in the Hamptons (Hampton Classic?) I vote go for it. Otherwise the traffic to get out there might be just too much for guests.
BTW- I like your date!

Re: Ladies, please I need your help.
What if you rented a party bus? Everyone could meet at one central location or get on the bus after the church and party all the way there :)
I dont know if this helps or hurts but I voted that it isnt too far because I would still go to a reception for a family member or friend but it is really far. I love LI and love to drive on the LIE on a nice day so I say go for it if it is the place you like!

I had the same plm with my FMIL, and am still at a lose as to how to best deal with her ... but
If people really want to be at your wedding, they will travel, it's not like your giving them a weeks notice, people will know they have to make travel arrangements.
Also, if the Vineyard is close to where you will be staying before the wedding, that's what counts, you need to be as stress free as possible...
Just my two cents.. hope it helps

I would go because I live in Suffolk County. If most of the guests were really far away (Queens, Manhattan, NJ) then I think it is too far.

we checked out Raphael and determined logistically it would not work for us and our OOT guests...
would have loved to have it there though

Re: Ladies, please I need your help.
i agree w/ a lot of other posts. I said Yes, we loved the Vineyard. We live in Queens, but most of my LI family lives in Suffolk, FH's in Nassau. I was a little worried about the distance factor (have family outside NY, and a group from NYC& NJ), but most of my friends/relatives are looking at it as going somewhere new and are excited. Even relatives making the haul from PA, so don't sweat it!
My advantage is I grew up out there, so when the FIL's (or anyone else) go 'why so far out', i can just say that and they pretty much leave it alone. Being the bride does have some advantages!!!
