last name question?

if this wasn't an issue for my FH--i would totally keep my last name! i love it! but unfortunately, FH hasn't asked me for much during the wedding planning, and was very adamant on how he wanted me to change my name. he didn't understand what the big deal is, and why won't i just go with tradition and change it. it took MANY months, and ultimately i will change my name.

but honestly...i HATE that i am going to do it. i will miss using my maiden name.

I am keeping my name...it's a famous last name...haha, although I am not related to any of them. It sounds better than his...and FH doesn't care, he's the one saying i should keep it..he thinks it's better for me anyway career wise as an artist...people always tell me 'oh you can take his name & use your maiden name for your art'...but to me why freakin' bother! Saves me on the paperwork

My FH would be extremely offended if I did not. I am going to miss mine though

My fh has always known I will keep my name. I think he thought I may change my mind but its not happening. I told him that if he needs us to have the same last name then I would love for him to have mine. My family has always been supportive and loving. My dad would do anything to make his children happy. Fh dad id a deadbeat. I have seen him 3 times in the 4.5 years we have been together and one time was due to a death. When fh told ffil we are engaged ffil said to who and then stated it was bad timing because he is getting divorced AGAIN. So is it so wrong that I would rather not take his ffil last name? I feel a little guilty but I just can't do it.

I am changing mine. I was really upset over it at first. FH told me that it meant a lot to him for me to have his name. I never really planned on keeping my name just sad to give it up. I keep writing my new name to help me get used to it

Thanks my family is making me feel like a freak for not changing my name. Well with the exception of dad, he of course is supporting whatever I choose. The only concern fh has is if the hyphenated kids last name will fit on a hockey jersey. Our names together will be shorted than most Italian last names I know. Thanks for the support.

You're not a freak! I'm not taking my FH last name either. He also couldnt care less. I liek my last name and it's been mine for almost 30 years. No need to change it now.

I graduate from Medical School in April and will be forever known as Dr. Current last name. Our wedding is in June and I plan on hyphenating. My dream has always been Dr. Current last name.

I went to medical school
I studied my a@@ off to become a doctor
My diploma will have my current last name on it.

I absolutely positively demand that my patients will call me Dr. Current last name! I love how that sounds!

Thanks I feel much less alone now. Its nice to know there are others out there.
