I think it is BS and told my DH that if it were me laying there and he got a judge to take out my feeding tube, then DH better come to my bedside with a gun or a razor and off me then and there...How is this a victory that these parents have to watch their daughter starve to death? If her DH cared about her quality of life so much, then why doesn't he put her out of her pain instead of having her lie there starving.

Because THAT is not legal.
I had this talk with my DH last night and we both said that we would want to be unplugged. It is about quality of life not quantity. My SIL was in a major accident years ago and she was in a comma for 3 months and even when she was asleep everyone swore she was able to hear us and would squeeze our hand. This is wishful thinking, no one wants to admit that their family member is that far gone. My SIL never heard us and doesn't remember anything up to 7 months after her accident. Her quality of life is much better then it was when the accident first happened but it may never be where it was before the accident. THis lady is much worse off and if it was up to her I am sure she would like to rest peacefully and pass on where she will never experience pain or misery again.

DO you think you are goign to see her agonizing in pain?

'her parents have to watch her die knowing that it could be stopped..this girl was very cared for...15 years and no bed sore problems? I would hate for this all to end at her husbands request for her to starve

but how can it be stopped? just because she has a feeding tube in her, that's not keeping her alive

Yes It is. They right now are starving her to death
due to my religious beliefs, for me it's a real tough call

Firstly, I think she would like to die now.. its a terrible way to...exist.
BUT, we as Americans so proud in our civil rights and human rights can not possible handle the idea of starving a human being. In ANY condition!
Being a brain dead, brain damaged doesnt matter. WE CAN NOT HANDLE THAT! (in general).
I have to admit, we all sit here at our computers and post our opinions, but we aren't THERE, we aren't her family or her husband. We can't imagine the nightmare of knowing whether she can feel it or not, we are committing her to a slow death. Starvation. I can't imagine what any of them (the family, the judge, the doctors!!) are feeling. We won't allow Dr. Kavorikan type solutions so instead we are left with starvation.
It's tough.
But allowing a loved one to just vegitate..... I couldnt do that either.
