Leaving Long Island

Original post by DayBeforeThanksgiving

Hey girls,

Is anyone here planning to move off of Long Island after their wedding? If so, where and why did you pick that location?

We're thinking of North Carolina... as much as I love Long Island, it's gotten so expensive. Seems like it will take forever to buy a house! North Carolina is really starting to boom! A few of my friends were thinking about it too... I'd love to hear if anyone else is taking off too!

I think we would consider moving to Florida, my sister and husband just bought a gorgous newly built house in the Ft. Meyer's area, a hop away from Sanibel Island (gorgous) and it's a really nice area, lots of construction etc. Just wondering Has anyone heard in Florida if you are a resident there for two years and not a home owner-the state will pay your down payment on a house?? Was this a long time ago or is this not true???

How great would that be???!?!!!!!???

We're off to Newark, Delaware in two weeks, following DH's job.

It's so much less expensive to live there!!!

We moved to Michigan a year and a 1/2 ago. I hate it here. FH got a really good job so we moved. Can't wait to move back east to where there's culture and diversity.

I have been trying for months to convince FH that we should move to North Carolina. You can get a gorgeous house in some areas down there for like $200,000. Plus it is warmer, insurance is cheaper and well everything is cheaper! I'm gonna keep trying but for now it is poverty on LI!

After I get married I'm moving to Dallas, Texas for many reasons, the major one being that my FH will still be in school down there. He's in an MD/PhD program and that takes at least 7 years to finish. I'll (hopefully) get a residency in Dallas and get to continue my post-grad medical career there.

I'm sooooooooooooooooo excited! I can't wait to go down to North Carolina and go house shopping! It's going to be so much fun! I had a $200 credit to Fortunoff and I went and got a second bathroom set! I'm already getting my decorating ideas together and I don't even have a house! :) Hahaha! So exciting.... Marriage, House and eventually kids... what an awesome time in my life! All of ours!

I wish I could take all my family and friends to live somewhere that was less expensive. Then I would leave LI, but not until then. It is crazy and sad what happening here. They're wiping out the middle class. But even if I won't be as comfortable as I would like, I couldn't live my life without my family and friends, you can't put a pricetag on that.

Re: Leaving Long Island

Yes, I am very excited about getting married there. It's so gorgeous - right on the water and the price was great! Tons of food too! Did you do the vianese hour? I didn't.... it's $15 extra a person. But they have the small 'Tabletop' vianese of cookies and pastries that go on every table.

I can't wait to see the new bridal suite and all of the other renovations! (If they ever start!) Gotta admit.... the bridal suite they have now is hurting! :)

Add me to the list of people considering NC. DayBeforeThanksgiving - how's it going with your home search in Cary? DH and I are considering Cary as well. Do you know anything about the school districts?

I can't believe how many of you girls are starting to talk about North Carolina. That makes me so happy. FH and I moved to North Carolina this past June and we love it here. Maybe by next year we can have a NC GTG I live in Raleigh right now. We are thinking about buying a house in Wake Forest next year. If anyone has any questions or concerns feel free to FM about anything. The apartment complex we live in right now would probably make some of you faint with all that you get for such a little amount of money (compared with NY apartments). The greatest thing is that everything is BRAND NEW down here. Sorry I am rambling.

Cary is a great area, but a little on the pricey side. All of the school districts inside Wake County are a great choice, some better than others of course. If you can I would try to avoid buying a house in a Durham County School District.
