I'm getting squeezed out of all 2006 dates. Is it normal to have a 1.5 yearish engagement???

Re: Length of Engagement
It's totally normal. There's plenty of people who have much longer than that.

Re: Length of Engagement
mine was a year and 3 months- it seemed like I needed more time to book everything
I got enaged in late August and got married in Dec- I didn't think I could pull it off sooner and I didn't want to wait until spring/summer 06

Re: Length of Engagement
my engagement will be exactly 1.5 years.
I think the average engagement on LI is about that (most range from 1-2 years). Of course some people plan weddings in a shorter period and others wait much longer to save $$$, etc.

Re: Length of Engagement
Totally normal. I got engaged in November 05 and am getting married in November 06, but we were limited in the amount of dates we could chose from. I would have had a longer engagement if it wasn't so important to FH and I to get married in 2006. My friend got engaged in October and is getting married July 2007...I'm jealous it allows her so much time to save!!!!

Re: Length of Engagement
I'll be engaged for 2 years when I get married. Not a question of normal, just what fits you and FH best. Definitely get going on the hall. That will book up the fastest especially if you are set to a specific date.

Re: Length of Engagement
We were engaged Dec 10, 2004, getting married May 28,2006
I think a year and a half is normal.

Re: Length of Engagement
egagement lasted exactly 2 years and exactly 7 years from when we first meet (this means we got engaged exactly on our 5 year anniversary)

Re: Length of Engagement
I had close to a two year engagement which not only gave us time to save, but we also got our pick of which ever vendor we wanted. We booked our hall 18 months in advance and we found halls that were booked for our date (although it was for a holiday weekend, those book faster).

Re: Length of Engagement
We were engaged for 4 years and 3 months!
We planned the wedding in a little over 7 months (go figure) booking our hall in October 2004 for May 2005. You can get great deals on 'short bookings' because of cancellations...
It was worth the wait for us, I'm sure 1.5 years will be too!

Re: Length of Engagement
I got engaged on December 17, 2005 and is getting married on December 2, 2006 we went out looking at places right away because I knew there were not going to be many dates available for when we wanted to get married. Also we figured that there was going to be a lot of couples that were going to start looking in the beginning of January for halls and we sorta wanted to beat the crowd. Thank goodness we did, every place we went to were basically out of Saturday night dates.

Re: Length of Engagement
we booked 8 months before. but our whole engagement was less than 9 months.
this could be wrong, but I heard that 2006 is a VERY busy year for weddings.

Re: Length of Engagement
We definitely want a Sat evening wedding. That is why we are squeezed out of 2006. =(

I got engaged on April 10, 2004 and booked Jericho Terrace 1 month later...we were SO excited about our engagement we didn't waste anytime with anything. We got married on November 26, 2005.

Re: Length of Engagement
We were engaged on 7/05/04 and wanted a fall wedding. There was NO WAY possible we were going to come up with THOUSANDS of dollars in just a few months so we knew we had to wait until 10/05 or 11/05. There's nothing wrong with a year or year and half engagement...especially if couple are paying for it themselves...it's almost a necessity!

Re: Length of Engagement
Our engagement will be about 15 months. I looked at some places right away because I was excited and realized that they had a lot of dates booked up already.
Would you possibly consider a Saturday night in another month?

Re: Length of Engagement
we got engaged October '04 and boked our venue summer '05 because they'd give us the '05 price even though our wedding is in '07. We needed the time to save the money for the wedding as well as my finishing law school (this May) and getting a job. For those already established in their careers I can see it being a problem.
