How far in advance did you book your venue?

I'm getting squeezed out of all 2006 dates. Is it normal to have a 1.5 yearish engagement???

egagement lasted exactly 2 years and exactly 7 years from when we first meet
(this means we got engaged exactly on our 5 year anniversary)

same here - almost.

we starte dating dec 14, 1999
got engaged dec 17, 2005
and are getting married dec 14, 2007 it will be our exact 8 year anniversary!

Mine is a 9 month engagement and I had no problem booking anything. You can plan a wedding in 4-5 months I think

We got engaged October 9, 2004 and got married on November 25, 2005...We booked our reception hall in Nov 2004...Good luck!

we started dating in July of 2002
made it offical Sept.18,2002
decided to be married June of 2005
Formal engagement Dec. 16,2005

Wedding will be July7,2007
or Nov. 10 or 17th 2007

I / We wanted to have everything planned before we were formally engaged so we could give the information & knew the answers to the questions that would be asked, FH threw mw for a loop by asking before we had anything set in stone.

2 year and 1 mth engagement for us by the time we get married. We had no choice due to $$$ - we need the time to save but we are getting first choice on a lot of things so it's working to our favor in more ways then one.

ETA: I booked my hall about a year before my wedding date.

Got engaged November 25, 2004
Booked hall February 23, 2005
Wedding will be June 10, 2006

So that's about a year and a half engagement. I wanted a June wedding and decided that I'd rather push it back a year then do everything in 6 months!

We had an 11 month engagement but it totally varies...my sister (wonder if she'll answer this post) is having a little over a 2 year engagement.

I got engaged Oct of 05, and we're getting married May of 07, so it's not that long of an engagement at all. Considering EVERYTHING is booked already.

lets see...engaged Dec 11, 2004 going to be married April 22, 2006...a year and four months... for us, especially me lol we are into the details, I really dont think I could have planned anything in less then a year...

March 30, 2003 we originally got 'engaged' which was only 5 months after we met b/c we knew we wanted to be together so he bought me a ring (and a house)... we're just now planning on booking a hall this spring for spring of 2007. So total time with the ring: about 4 years, but we've also only been together about that amount of time so it depends sometimes on your specific situation and what you want to do. We wanted the house out of the way so that if we want to start a family soon after the wedding, we'd have some equity built up. Just made sense for us, but everyone's different.
