With Lent starting tomorrow, has anyone thought of what they are sacrificing for 40 days? I think it may be something like complaining about my MIL or something that I don't need to do, but makes me feel better.

Probably soda. I should give up junk food. But, I'm not sure if I have the will power.

Re: Lenten Sacrifices
I want to give up my favorite 4 letter word, but sometimes I think giving up sweets would be easier. I am going to give up sweets, includes soda, but not seltzer

Re: Lenten Sacrifices
not giving up anything
IMO, it's more important that you do something nice that you wouldn't ordinarily do, rather than giving something up for the short term

I think I'm giving up soda too. That's a real sacrifice for me lately! I've been drinking way too much. Last year I tried not to gossip. Boy, was that hard!!

That's funny!! Yeah, life became very boring. I didn't last too long with that one.

Re: Lenten Sacrifices
Not sure...Lent caught me by surprise this year...totally didn't know that tomorrow is Ash Wednesday.
Well instead of giving something up I am going to try and go to church more often Especially since I told the priest I would when we went for our interview to set up the wedding date!

I always forget every year what days we are not supposed to eat meat.
Is today one of those days?

And supposed to be Fridays...funny thing last year when I was getting married all my relatives from Ireland ate meat at my friday rehersal dinner...so did the priest!!! They said they don't have that rule over there.
Also my Aunt & Uncle from Texas ate meat... said everyone they know in Texas doesn't follow the Friday meat thing! Is NY the only one who does?

I gave up an 'act' for 23 years
I'm doing something nice for someone instead.

Re: Lenten Sacrifices
My DH has agreed to stop saying 'In the bin, Phil' every time he wants me to throw something away because it annoys the heck out of me and he knows I won't throw anything away if he asks me that way (I think it's a phrase one of his teachers in school used to use when talking to this kid named Phil who used to try to throw things into the waste papaer basket from his desk . It caught on, he and his brother say it all the time, and it's just dumb!)
I've given up yelling at him every time he does it
Actually haven't thought much about what I might give up, but I'm trying to be a better, more patient person all around.
Probably should give up LIW!!!
