It seems like since I got enagaed people have said the stupidest things to me .... 1.Why a 2 year engagment? 2. Why can't we have beer in the bottles ? 3.That does not look like calligraphy, it looks like computer art! 4.You send out your invites on the early side... March is so far away! (Hello- we are half way thru January!)

My fiance and I are paying for the wedding. We have 300 family members going. My future mother in law wanted to know why her 50 'closest' friends from work weren't on the list.....oh, are you paying now??

I think, by far, this is the BEST THREAD on here! (some of your posts are PRICELESS!)
Here's mine:
1) Why such a short engagement? IS there some 'reason' why you are rushing things along??
(ok .. we got engaged in Dec 03 and are being married this July '04 .. even if I WAS rushing into it (I'm not), I'd be pretty pregnant by then!!)
2) You are too old to wear white and a big frilly gown ... or to have a huge wedding party, etc.. Why don't you just elope and save your money!
(I'm 34, by the way ...)
3) Marriage sucks! Why ruin a beautiful relationship (said by MANY people!)
Because we've IN LOVE and want to have a future together as a Family, that's why!!
4) Why are you getting married in the SUMMER (too hot) ALL THE WAY in LONG ISLAND? SO much traffic in the summer, and sooo expensive!!

Why are you having you're wedding at a catering hall? Why not have in your back yard and have your mom cook. Why can't all the kids go, they'll behave (yeah right). You're paying how much?

Upon anouncing our date my nosey, unmarried 50+ year old aunt (in a 30+ year with the same creap) told me
1- Why the hell would you ever want to get married during the winter. No one is going to come even if the weather is OK 2- What if there is a blizard 3- is it about the $$$$$ My response- The date has semential value to us

I have a lot of people here in CA asking 'Why are you waiting so long?' or saying. 'I've never heard of such a long engagement'. Now i can say back to them 'well, our church was already booked for out date so I don't think we're waiting so long', or I explain how it is in NY. Here, people can plan a wedding in 6 months or less.
This one annoys the heck out of me. I had a girl tell me that my ring was 'so cute' and 'It's adorable' as if its a freakin kitten or something. Granted its not the 2 carat chunk like hers, but its not small either! Its 1 1/4 carat. I love it. Its dainty and beautiful. My response was, 'I love it and I wouldn't want anything more or less. This is my ring and I couldn't imagine it any other way.' How rude?!

Why haven' you set a date yet? ....This is after we already had a date and had to postpone it because every hall we looked at wasn't good enough for everybody. (Funny, I thought the bride and groom picked this.)
Oh and the best, lets make it a bbq in the backyard.

By far the most boneheaded thing was said to LovelyL though by a relative. 'Oh, I like your ring, it's so simple and plain.' (the diamond is round, I guess that makes it plain) I mean, we know this b**ch relative of mine says pretty rude stuff, but that was over the top. Another gem by her, 'Have fun planning the wedding, because after you're married the only thing to look forward to is having kids.' We just laughed her off with that one. I wish I could not invite her to my wedding sometimes.

And the other one: Him: When's the date? Me: August 29th. Him: August 29th, but... That's GENCON!! (Gencon is an annual Gaming convention in Wisconsin) Me: But it's our WEDDING. Him: But it's GENCON.
I'm not kidding either. THEN he bitched about it being a Sunday morning because he's going to be inconvenienced travelwise. I explained that it was either Sunday Morning, or he could not be invited to a Saturday Night affair.

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha love the comment about the cameras. so far, i haven't had too many stupid comments. so i assume, there all talking behind my back. whenever i tell people our date, 2006, they look at me like I must not realize its far away. i know its not soon, but we are all trying to save $$$$ for our weddings and we have to be realistic. as soon as i get some good ones, i'll send them onto everyone. my fmil has a big mouth and loves to talk, especially when it comes to our wedding. she has all the answers, so i should just leave it all up to her. RIGHT!!!

Today my FMIL said... we were discussing me finding my dress. I said my mom was going to possibly get a nice red dress for herself and my FMIL says 'Red? you what they say, you never wear black, red or white to a wedding' I was like, well... 'It is a Christmas wedding and red is very festive'. I was insulted, I don't care if people were to wear red or black. I have worn black dresses a # of times to weddings.

This is the BEST thread!!!! *AFter FH and I told his parents how we need to cut the guest lists due to finances and how my mom is only inviting my first cousins and her sisters, FMIL proceeded to tell me 'well, I have to invite my great aunts and my 3rd cousins, they all know Joe' Yeah well, I know alot of my family members but it doesnt mean it has to be a giant reunion. Its my wedding! *How about, FFIL, telling me, he has to invite all of his cousins, even though he doesnt talk to them or like them, but if his cousins find out that they invited FMILs cousins there will be issues... ugh!! * How about my BM asking if I can make her husband a groomsmen bc it will be fun for them! * and lastly, after i commented onhow my BP was too big, my sister asked if her son can be a jr groomsmen, and I asked why... she said bc he wants to ride in a limo. are you kidding!

How about the day after you get engaged your fsil asks if you can go to David's bridals to look for wedding gowns?
I think the best is Fmil telling me to invite so and so b/c even if they dont come they will give you a good gift. Or dont invite so and so b/c they are cheap.
Or how about ffil telling you 5 dozen times that he is going to buy a house big enough for fmil,ffil,fsil,fbil to be all to live in together as one big happy family.
