Let's start a thread- The stupidest comments you have gotten from people about your wedding....
Original post by princess99
It seems like since I got enagaed people have said the stupidest things to me .... 1.Why a 2 year engagment? 2. Why can't we have beer in the bottles ? 3.That does not look like calligraphy, it looks like computer art! 4.You send out your invites on the early side... March is so far away! (Hello- we are half way thru January!)
Feel free to add on, this may be fun! And a good way to vent!

I wasnt too impressed.. guess she could tell.. she asked what was wrong and I answered well I prefer more of a photojournalistic style.. she said GET THIS - Well if you want pictures of the backs of peoples heads then thats your choice! How rude!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG that sounds like what my mom said...
' i hope you have a photographer who has pictures with EVERYONE facing forward, i HATE when people are looking away in the picture'....- my mom

Don't laugh about the Costco flowers too hard. I work there And I honestly cant tell you how many people special order flowers so they can make their own wedding arrangements.
And the famous $14.99 sheet cake. I have seen a ton of people getting a small cake for show at the wedding and then getting 2 sheet cakes from costco and serve that. No one knows what the cake looks like once they take it into the kitchen and cut it up you would be surprised to know how many of those cakes you have really eaten...... Anything to save a penny.. Sorry if I ofend anyone...

Great Thread!!!
Ok, here are some of mine:
Various people: You're getting married in Italy? I guess you don't want anyone to come huh? (78 people came to my wedding in Italy, THANK YOU!)
Co-worker: You got your wedding band at Tiffany's??? You could have gotten it for so much less anywhere else...Besides, their diamonds aren't any different than anyone elses.... (umm...I don't remember asking for your opinion, but thanks!)
PEOPLE HAVE SOME NERVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How much are you paying? (everyone wants to know how much I'm paying for everything!)
Family member said first time she saw my ring: Wow, it's nice. Is it real?.... Me: Yeah, why wouldn't it be? Her: Well how much did he pay for it? Me: I don't know he bought not me!
Always get why the long engagement?(1 1/2 yrs.)
There's more but I can't think right now.
Just remembered: My priest also said when he saw the ring: I didn't know loss prevention agents made that much!~~~ I almost had a heart attack!!!

I love this thread!! I've got some more.
You should book the guy that plays a flute by Penn station for your ceremony. --my brother
I've seen many weddings where there were lots of mistakes and the bride didn't notice...If you don't want to book with me, that's fine. I have a booked filled with people who do. In fact there is someone who is coming in tomorrow to book your day...You don't seem to trust people.--A florist that I didn't book with, who, btw, had 3 reports on the BBB website.
I know I have more, so I'll be back!!

Ok I've been engaged for almost 2 yrs already so you know I've gotten some good ones.
-On the night I got engaged I called my dad to tell him and the first things he said was 'Your engaged? Did you get a ring?' -That's right that's fom my dad.
-At my cousins bridal shower this past summer two of my aunts complaining about having to drive from Westchester to Long Island-You know what maybe I should have had it all the way in Montauk so they could drive through all of Long Island.
-Of course I always get the 'Why are you waiting so long'-Well are you paying for my wedding
I am sure I've gotten more just can't remember any-I've blocked them out of my memory.

Oh i forgot
8.) I am boycotting the response card.
ROTFLMFAO!!! I actually got a tear in my eye over this one!!! I LOVE this thread... and I have some more:
'Well, what am I gonna say -- no?' --Dad's response to FH asking for my hand in marriage
'Well, why don't you just borrow Maria's wedding gown?' --Dad again when I told him I was having a hard time finding a dress
'Sorry if I'm not much help today but I'm drunk' -- my BM last weekend during gown shopping at 3 in the afternoon (My response was -- OH! So THAT'S what STINKS in here!!!)
'Ok listen -- you, me, and Jimmy are going to have to sit down and have a talk about what you guys WANT and DON'T WANT to hear about your wedding!' --MOH, last night
I think I'm going to start writing these down and keep them in a little scrap book or something!!

Re: Let's start a thread- The stupidest comments you have gotten from people about your wedding....
Here are mine: Let me start by saying Im tired of the ethnic slurs and references… so is Jim but we have learned to just roll our eyes and most of it now.
THEM: “You’re getting married to a New Yorker Chinese boy? Are you pregnant?” ME: “Nope just marrying the guy I love and want to marry. Imagine, that.. I want to be married for life and not have a divorce, no offense to you of course” (Almost all who assume Im getting married for a baby is divorced or unmarried)
THEM: “Will his people let you marry him” ME: “only if I tie him to the alter”
THEM: “Are you getting married in a church?” ME: “No, at the reception site” THEM: “That’s good” ME: ????????? “Uhm, yeah since Gods knows I could hurt someone’s feelings” (mind you we are being married by a pastor)
THEM: “New York??, get a rope!” (Really old Pace Pecante Sauce Joke, so tired of hearing it)
THEM: “Why New York, it’s cheaper and better here (San Antonio), just bring his family here” ME: “Because I don’t feel like planning long distance” (This is NEVER a good enough answer, nothing is)
THEM: “I just can’t afford to go to New York, all that noise and traffic, grim and crime, sorry but we also expect to send you a gift, god knows what will happen to it” ME: “It’s Long Island, not New York City and my mail goes to a post office just like yours”
THEM: “Do their people have certain rituals? Maybe you should have a traditional wedding instead” (Said in a way to imply that Chinese traditions aren’t fit for me, so lets do OUR own traditions instead” ME: “Well they usually ask for one pint of the FOB’s blood in exchange as a sort of dowry for taking me into their family’s home.” Hehehe Or ME: “Well, actually no, but there is one they’d like to me to keep. See I can’t talk about money spent on the wedding or details about the wedding because that’s bragging and considered bad luck, sorry” (God that saves me tons let me tell you)
THEM: “So when should we expect your first child?”
THEM: “Oh my god, that’s got to be expensive, how much of it is his family paying for” (RUDE)
THE BEST:
TEHM: “God knows why your father let you go to New York, every knows he can’t possible afford your wedding, you should elope and move back to Texas” (Let me move to New York? Love it! Whatever)
I’ve just given up. If I don’t have some smart A$S comment I just smile and let them all go. Im sure I’ll think of more later.

I got engaged on the last night of the world series so .... When my FH came to ask my father that night he showed him the ring and the first thing out of my father's mouth was the f***ing Yankees are losing.
Then of course came the congrats and everything else...

Re: Let's start a thread- The stupidest comments you have gotten from people about your wedding....
I really needed to read this after the week I've been having..
After traipsing around Manhattan this past weekend looking for BM dresses with my MOH (who is my sister) her & I finally choose cute, fun dresses that look like sundresses. I'm buying one of the dresses for my RD no matter what -
BM#1 - I don't want to be a d!ck, but $229 is a lot of money for a pink dress I'm never going to wear again - can't we go to David's Bridal (WTF??? Have you even looked at it yet???!! You want to go to David's you go on ahead - I just traipsed through arctic temps to 3 different dress places to find an affordable dress for every one - you're on your own!)
BM#2 - Manhattan is too far to go for dresses (WTF??? You live in NASSAU COUNTY take the @!@#@$#@ LIRR!!!!!)
FMIL (on the date of the engagement party) Oh, I'm sorry, can you change the date? I'll be in Cape Cod that weekend. (Excuse me, are you throwing the !@$@$!@ party -NO - did you know of the date 1-2months ago? YES!!! ENJOY the CAPE!!! (Unfortunately my mother is a saint and changed it to accomodate FMIL - it's a lost cause with FMIL)
I could go on & on & on.....

Oh yeah and
THEM: “RSVP? For what? It’s your wedding aren’t we all (family) automatically invited? Why should we bother responding?”
The concept of RSVP is lost on my Texan folks, being Texan I understand. There’s just no need for RSVP down there. It’s gonna tough to get a headcount. I just can’t wait.

Re: Let's start a thread- The stupidest comments you have gotten from people about your wedding....
This thread is great!
From someone who works for FH: Did you see the rock on her finger? First he buys an Audi, then that rock - I'd like to know how much HE makes!! (He announced this in the middle of a high-traffic hallway at work - both FH & I work together...I was in the copy room just off the hallway, so I heard it.)
From same jackass: The wife wants me to look at the rock again so I can tell her what it looks like.
Dense.
From my mother: You're not taking his name? You're keeping your father's name? Oh, that's not right - you should be changing your name.
First, it's MY name. Second, I didn't ask for you opinion, I merely answered a question. (Which I now know, it's better to feign ignorance and/or lie.)

Xelindrya,
OMG - Yours are unbelievable! It's hard to believe that people can be THAT ignorant.
I especially loved your comment about tying Jim to the Altar!

oh and another-
This is just recently after i got engaged, when my aunt sees me, Of course I am overjoyed at being engaged. First she asks me to take my ring off so she could see it better, then she holds it up to the light as if she is some kind of gematolgist, lord knows what she could be looking for.and then she proceeds to say' oh its not bad'.......not bad, you have gotta be kidding me. Could you believe the nerve of this broad. Mind you her ring was bought on the HSN for 45 bucks. And she only finally got her man to marry her because he wants to stay in the country.
