Live with FH?

Original post by SeaMaiden

Do you all live with your FH? We are moving in together soon but worried about the whole premarital backlash thing from the family.

Tell them living together is cheaper than getting a divorce. That's what my dad said when he got the evil eye from nay sayers.

Good luck and Congrats!!!!

i like that!

FH and I dont live together and I would never even think of it - that is just me! I want it to be a completely new experience when we are newlyweds! call me a hopeless romantic, lol!

One of my friends just got married and moved in post-marriage together and she is so excited about the division of labor, with cooking, cleaning, the man bringin home the bacon and all. It sounds quite romantic, and I sure hope that the magic dosent fade. I would prefer knowing all the dirty habits so I truly understand the good and bad before committing for life. He needs to know too, Im verrry messy

yeah i already know the division of labor
cook, clean and work
work and shovel snow once a year.

maybe by not moving in with him i am just trying to avoid that for a little longer

seriously though, i am looking forward to it - i am very old fashioned. . . i should have been born in the 40s lol

Livin in sin for a year now and lovin it! :) My dad had a total fit when I told him, so Jack had to sit down with my parents (as if I came with a dowry!) old-school style and state his itentions. Very traditional. But i suggest that everyone live with their boyfriend/fiance before marrying. I mean, what are you going to do after you get married and THEN find out you can't stand living with each other?

the thing is that it would make more sense to live together if the divorce rate went DOWN as the cohabitation rate went UP - the opposite is true though!

Not saying that couples that live together are more likely to divorce - but living together doesnt seem to lead to stronger marriages in the end ( i am editing this bc i want to make VERY clear that i DON'T think that living together is BAD just i dont see how everyone says that it leads to better marriages - dont want to offend anyone bc to each her own!)

feel free to prove me wrong but this is how i feel - i mean after nine years i think we pretty much know each other and as for the surprises that will come. . . we have a strong enough foundation to work through them

Wow alot of girls responded to living together before, we have been living together now for 3 years. we bought a house last august. and before that rented for 2 years.

Our families were thrilled with us moving in together, he was 22 i was 23, I think its the best thing, i cant imagine not living with him,

I do not cook or clean, so i will not be doing those wife duties anytime soon, and i really dont work lol. i just help him out at the office when he needs it.

You're not being offensive at all. I appreciate your opinion. I had heard/read the same thing. I guess it depends on what works for people as a couple, ya know? I know people who've lived with each other for years only to get divorced within the first year of being married, and those who knew each other for 6 months who've been married for 35 years. Even though I would be totally ok with if my own children wanted to live with their significant others first, I do agree that it comes down to your level of committment to each other to get through the hard times and knowing that it's not always a walk through the park. Sometimes you need to put in a little elbow grease. I've seen too many of my friends run from perfectly good relationships because it actually involved work. :) My FH and I got each other though a major health issue last year, and if we can get through that we can get through anything! LOL I do agree with you though, after 9 years, you know the ins and outs.

Re: Live with FH?

i do live with FH. i was REALLY excited to move in with him, but then i had mixed emotions. i thought it would be so wonderful to see him everyday and go to sleep with him every night, wake up each morning, etc. and it is!!! but then i think about how we will get married and go on our honeymoon and all we will come back to is a messy house! i duno. i think there are definite advantages to both - getting married and THEN living together is romantic because it really makes your FEEL like a couple. but living together first is good too because you get a feel for what future life might be like.

i realize i haven't answered any real questions - but it's just my thoughts on the topic :)
