How many of you live together before you are married?
How many of you had issues with your parents regarding it?

Re: Living Together Before You're Married
I don't live with my FH, I'm afraid it will take something away from getting married then living together. All my friends from college either live alone or with their boyfriend. Everyone has a different opinion. Do you live with your FH?

We do not live together, partly because my parents would kill me!

Re: Living Together Before You're Married
I didn't live with my DH before we were married--my parents felt very strongly when I was growing up that it was living in sin. That said, it did make the first month of being married difficult--much of it was spent figuring out how to divide household chores, sharing the bed (and investing in a king sized when we COULDN'T learn to share the bed...weeks without sleep was NOT pretty).

Not yet, but I'm moving in with him in he next month or 2 (when the remodelng is done).
My parents have gone...oh how do I put this...CRAZY. When we first were thinking about it my parents wanted us to be engaged at least....and now we are. But now my parents are flipping because it's untraditional and why don't we just get married... it's bizarre and annoying.

Re: Living Together Before You're Married
We have lived together for 2.5 years. My parents didnt have anything to say about it.. but we are a little different then most the other couples on here. We have a 2 year old son together and we live all together as a family.. I wouldn't have it any other way.

We lived together before we were married (when we got engaged) and I am so glad we did.
His parents were totally fine w it and in fact encouraged it - mine on the other hand are strict Catholics and nearly disowned me. Even though we were engaged. The refused to visit our apt until after we were married. Very old school.

My parents would feel the same way. However, the more I talk to friends and coworkers, people move in together all the time before they are married....

Re: Living Together Before You're Married
We live together. My parents were psycho at first (they finally agreed to it with the stipulation that I was going to sleep in another room LMAO!!!!!!) Since it is their house, I let them believe this was true, plus they were living out of town at the time. They are home now for the holidays and havent said anything about it.. I guess its because we are now engaged.
(I am 30 mind you!!!!!!!!)
ETA: I wouldnt change living with him for the world. I think its great!!!

Re: Living Together Before You're Married
We've been living together for about a year and a half (slightly less). I LOVE it and highly recommend that everyone do it. We got past all of that trivial crap so when we get married, we can just deal with our marriage and not figuring out who's going to take out the garbage.
As far as parents go, his were fine with it. My mom wasn't thrilled, this certainly would not be the way she would have picked it to be, but told me that since I was (almost) 25 when we moved in together, there was not much she could say. She did say, numerous times, that if I was like 20 she would have flipped out. I'm the youngest of five though. Although my family is a pretty conservative Irish Catholic family, by the time she got to me there's only so much energy she can spend on my less than traditional outlook on life. I think by the time it got to this, she half-expected it.

My parents are so ridiculously Catholic... that's what alot of this about. They said they wouldn't stand in the way, but they're going to be so pissy until we're married.
I was just curious what everyone's experience was. We were both going to live at home until we were married, but we've been together for 4 1/2 years, engaged for 6 months and I'm tired of commuting to see my future husband! It's time for us, and this is what we want!

Re: Living Together Before You're Married
We lived together for about 2 years before we got married , but not full time, he would come on the weekends as the wedding got closer he stayed here more. It helped us make the transition to marriage easier, I was not a firm believer in this but I am now.

Re: Living Together Before You're Married
I just think its a good thing to do for lots of reasons. You realllllllllllllly get to know a person when you live together (sometimes more than you really want to know) but it is very important to know these things beforehand!
Also, my brother and his ex-wife dated for 6 years, didnt live together, got married, and were divorced almost a year to the day!!
But everyone is entitled to their own beliefs and opinions!

Re: Living Together Before You're Married
My fh and I do not live together b/c my parents have asked us not to and out of respect for them we didn't. I sometimes wonder if not living with fh before getting married is a mistake. I mean there are going to be so many adjustments all at once. I am a little scared!!!

Re: Living Together Before You're Married
We didnt, but only because of our finances before the wedding. We really needed to save every penny! However, if we did move it I dont think anyone would have said anything (except our grandparents). But it would have been fine in the long run.

Re: Living Together Before You're Married
Jensun, it's different for everyone. One of my best friends didn't live with her husband before they were married, and yes, there was an adjustment period, but they just celebrated their frst anniversary and are very, very happy.
FH and I just want to do things a little ou of order. As much as I don't wan to disrespect my parents, I also need to do what makes me happy!
Also, I'm hoping to use these 2 years before we're married to explain to him that THE DIRTY SOCKS LIVE IN THE HAMPER!

Re: Living Together Before You're Married
We didn't live together before we got married because it was frowned upon by both sets of parents and it was better for us financially to live with out parents until we were married. I'm glad that we didn't b/c it was all so new once we were married, but it was also more stressful this way. You spend a lot of the first year of marriage learning to live together and setting in.

Re: Living Together Before You're Married
We have been living together for about 1 1/2 yrs. in NY, and before that lived together for about 3 years in Florida. Long story... Anyway, my parents never really said anything. They let me make my own decisions and just support those decisions. I think it was a little different too because I was in FL at the time, and they weren't around. When we moved back to NY, we didn't live together at first (financial reasons) but started a business together. When we moved in together this time, my family acted like it was normal and were waiting for it to happen-probably b/c they couldn't wait to get rid of me again! lol
