LIW related

I have recently been reflecting on the responses i have been giving to
posts that ask for my opinion...

How honest of a response do you want to a post that asks for opinions????

Yes all responses should be tactful and respectful...but obviously offenses are taken
(nobody specific!!! i have seen this numerous times)

So what is the LIW consenus?

Honesty is always the best policy IMO

or there is always the

'if you have nothing nice to say, dont say anything at all'

Ok I really helped there

I try and give my honest opinion. If it's not my tatste, I try and explain WHY in a diplomatic way and make suggestions as to what I THINK might be better....
if I really cant find anything nice to say at all...then I just dont reply....

Well, it depends. I have to admit I have seen some dresses, hair, and makeup that I hate--just not my style. I refrain from posting that I dislike something (unless there is one or two things I would change--like makeup that could use less blush, etc), since opinions are not objective...

I always look for an honest opinion, as long as it is not over the top....ie...if I were to ask someone how they like my shoes & their response were:
'you'd need those big ugly shoes to cover your nasty hammer-toes' I might be offended....

Same here. But in general, if you're opening yourself up for opinions on this site, you're opening yourself up to all opinions. People need to realize that.

I agree- if you want an honest opinion you should be prepared for one.

Some people are honest but not selective with thier wording. Could be seen as hurtful.

I think that there are some dresses, invites etc. that I see here are nice but not my type.

I still agree - honesty is the best policy.

If it was ME, personally I would want the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth

I agree with what you ladies are saying. For the most part if I like something very much I say so. If I'm not so crazy about it I might say keep looking, or its not my style. But mostly if I don't like something I don't reply to the post.

honesty if the person wants it. But if the person says that they already booked their makeup woman because they love it, I would not respond if I hated it.

Same here.. Of course, being tactful and constructive is important.

I agree with you. People are asking for our honest opinion, so they shouldn't be offended by the response they get! But I completely refrain from posting when asked for opinion on something personal.

I completely refrain from posting when asked for opinion on something personal like hair or makeup or dress and I don't like it.

Whats the point? I would end up being 'honest' and saying I don't like it, and then most likely, feelings would be hurt, and then a few would say 'She is so mean!' and then drama ensues.

There are alot of girls on here who want everything to be 'nicey-nice' all the time and get so upset when someone is 'mean.' Yes, certain times someone can be 'mean' and I HATE to see that! But most of the time, they are just stating their opinion in a quick, typed out way. I hate when everything is super sugar coated. Just my personal preference with life and chat boards.

I think 99% of the people who post pics of hair and makeup looking for an 'opinion' are not looking for that, but rather, validation that they look pretty. They know people will post positive things. Even the most hideous things (hideous in my opinion, that is) will get the 'awww! So nice!' reply. Which is absolutely fine. I would rather not comment at all - I'm not into lying, but I am not looking to be 'mean' either.

Everything can be misinterpreted with this type of communication. In my ideal LIW world, everyone would be a little less insecure about certain things and take each opinion and comment as just that. An opinion or a comment.

I prefer the harsh truth. I don't have tie to sor t through the fluff. If something looks like ****, just tell me so. I have a lot more respect for people who tell it like it is. But that's just my own personal opinion. I am not the sensitive type.

I also agree with everything bunnymonkey stated. I don't think a lot of ladies on here want the truth, rather just validation.

If i don't want the truth.. I DON'T ASK!!! We're not going to lie here.. if u ask for honest opinions here is the place to go

Be honest!!! Why lie? Don't be nasty about it. Say it the right way but be honest.

What bugs me is when people have nothing nice to say ever!! Then they are just a sh1t stirrer and I hate negative trouble makers!!!

Re: LIW related

I think honesty is always the best policy. SOmetimes though there's no pint in being honest. If a girl already bought her gown and shows pics of her first fitting and I think it's ugly, it's not the time to say it, so i don't say anything and move on to the next topic.

Another problem is that people often get attacked for their opinions and/or cant tell the difference between debate and attack

Re: LIW related

Well i agree with most of you in that i will give an honest opinion
but not when someone has booked something or bought an item

But i do think honest opinons are taken the wrong way sometimes..
even when it is not intended !
I have been in debates with people who sai i have attacked them
and i was shock..attack? I am debating something!

lately i just feel i should be quieter...is anyone else getting that vibe?

Re: LIW related

No-
I for one, think you are sincere and value your comments.

Some people are very thin skinned. That's not a bad thing comments may get misconstrued online vs. if you know them on a 1 to 1 basis ( in person).

Not everyone is going to like everyones choices- thats why there are so many dresses, halls etc.

ETA- even if I see pics or items here that I am not floored by- there may be something that i like about - for example the dress- not the shoes.

Things do get twisted around here and sometimes for no good reason @ all-

It's hard because I'll be honest, some dresses that some brides pick out are not my taste but am I going to say, 'That's hideous' no bride wants to hear that right? It's hard to be tactful when you don't like something.

Re: LIW related

When I first started posting here, there was a WHOLE bunch of drama going on. It basically escalated from opinions that a few brides shared that were not so nice. They were blunt and harsh in their statements, and it eventually caused a lot of beef between many brides. Eventually though, a few of these brides were banned from this site just because they stated their honest opinion.
I'd hate to see that happen to any of the brides here because we are all in this together. But wording truly is essential on this website because we honestly dont know each other personally. One statement may not offend one bride, but might hurt another. I always give an honest opinion, but I say it nicely so as not to offend.
