I have recently been reflecting on the responses i have been giving to posts that ask for my opinion...
How honest of a response do you want to a post that asks for opinions????
Yes all responses should be tactful and respectful...but obviously offenses are taken (nobody specific!!! i have seen this numerous times)
So what is the LIW consenus?

I think that if I dont ask for an opinion , then dont give it...But most posts, probably 99% are asking for one in one way or another for an opinion... For example...If a post says' heres a pic of me in my dress'...If I didnt like it, I would say nothing..If the topic said,'here's my dress..what do you think?'...thats different and I would probably be more open to giving an opinion that might not be what the person wanted..
I have a BIG problem with complainers...I can take what others say...If you cant..then dont post...you are not going to always be happy..simple as that..
I am getting tired of the sad ' why cant I vent' posts....because if you vent, and I think your being childish, I'm gonna tell ya so...so dont vent...and the same can be said about myself...If I vent and someone thinks Im a complete idiot for it, go ahead tell me...
If people take what's said on this site too much to heart then they need to get out of the house and get some more freash air, because there is a problem...
well said!

My solution for this is simple...Don't be rude to begin with. That will work, no?
Yeah, but your missing something here. Some people may post something and what they say may be construed as rude when they didn't intend it to be. At that point, why must 12 people say 'I think that comment was rude' when it's enough to say it just once and get back to the point of the thread. Getting the original post answered should be way more important than telling someone that you think they were rude.
Now if someone is being intentionaly rude, then there is no perpose in talking to that person at all. Whats the point? If they want to be rude, no amount of berating them is going to change that.

Really the problem is that a lot of people want it both ways. They want to come here for support when they need it, but then are unsupportive when they disagree with a personal choice or opinion of someone else. Obviously not everyone does this, but there are some people who complain about rudeness and then make completely inappropriate comments when they feel like it.
I have been hanging around here for a long time and seen a lot of nastiness - posts started to bash how someone looked on their wedding day, people cursed at and called FAT, people starting threads to make fun of others, ladies telling other ladies they feel bad for their DH, FH or CHILD - and the list goes on.
Bottom line - you just need to have thick skin because not everyone knows how to play nice.

Have to say...none of this has happened in quite a while...Coincidence...or maybe more mature people post now? I dunno but i hope it stays that way! !

I think for the most part ( besides todays drama...) most people have now realized we are here to have fun, and the nastiness Becky seems to be referring to was more about NWR posts where people get more personal and a lot of the old timers felt that it was ok to call names and be childish......Now a days the issues you oct.2004bride bring up are more about whether people get offended easily by someone 'true' opinion and not so much about the 'drama' that sometimes occurs for other reasons.....
I may be wrong but I think this thread was a good way to get people to understand why some people say some things and no-one got nasty, but tried to understand and explain themselves and why they say what they do...And I didnt think you referring to 'drama' threads or anything, but trying to get a better understanding ...

Yes you are correct...the BS drama of yester year was not what i was focusing on in this thread but rather possible harmless opposite opinions that are taken as a rude
