lost luggage, getting worried

Original post by Espo22

well one problem we had was coming back home, dh didnt get one of his luggages. Of course it was the one he would be most pissed about, the other one he wouldnt have been as upset. Ive called everyday and they STILL haven't located it, we got back monday night and they say it usually takes 24-48 hours to locate it but still no news. I even went back to the airport to look through their unclaimed luggages and nothing. I explained to the lady that with the fact that we had a flight from nice to madrid, then a connecting flight from madrid to NY, PLUS when we left madrid there were 2 flights leaving for NY with the same airline, infact we boarded at the same time as the other flight and they were one next to another so guess with all that somehow it got lost.

Its the one suitcase he had with all his suits, he brought alot on the HM, all his button down shirts, blazers, expensive shoes.

One time this happened to me and i received it after 4 days, but if i remember correctly they had located it before. MIL asked one guy we saw getting his luggage and asked how long it took and he said 5 days so im trying to stay hopeful

did anyone have an experience of a lost luggage and NEVER got it back, or if you got it back how long did it take. It S*CKS bc theres a possibility of 3 countries it can be in, what if somebody picked it up by accident or who knows.

Denise this happened to me, my brother and Sil last summer when we came back from Italy.

The Alitalia workers in Rome were being pricks and instead of going on strike they were fing around with the passenger's belongings. From a flight of over 200 passengers only about 20 bags made it on our flight. This went on for about 3 weeks! there were tons and tons of bags outside the Alitalia office in JFK.

I finally had my 2 luggages delievered to me after 2 days at like 2am. My brother and sil got 1 bag after a few days as well and 1 bag made it's way to Canada...don't know how...and finally after 1 week they got it back. They opened their luggage and took out all the espresso coffee they bought and a few perfumes that my sil bought.

I hope this doesn't happen with Joe's bag. It really ***** and totally understand the frustration! Not sure if this is happening with your airline but they wouldn't even pick up the phone when we tried to call and find out info on our bags!

Good luck and I hope his bag makes it's way back home....UNOPEN!!!!!!!!!!

oh WOW that S*CKS, joe is scared of ppl going through his bag and taking things.

They do pick up when you call and tell us it hasnt been located, one lady tried to get as much info about the bag so it can be easier to locate. Although today im having trouble bc although i press 3 for english and non english speaking person keeps coming on the line and saying to call back later lines are busy and to try and get an english speaking person later

there were a few of us on the flight that didnt get our luggage, not many but when i went to baggage claim there were a few other ppl on our flight. I think one problem is that there were 2 flights that left for ny with same airline. When i told the lady at jfk they even had the same flight number up she said it was impossible but i told her thats how they had it up on the screens. They had so many ppl going to nyc that even before the boarding area they put up a red rope and made us show our tickets and passports, the line was insane and i said there was no way we were all on one plane no matter how big it was. Then after they boarded us. When we got to the front we looked on the screen bc the doors were side by side and one place on one side and another on the other side, they both were same airline, same flight number and had the same time. Maybe since they had so many ppl going to NY that day they made 2 flights, who knows. Or it can still be in france the luggage lol who knows

ugh that S*cks to lose it when you get to your vacation destination, makes it even worse. I know one couple who went on a cruise and they lost their luggage on the flight to florida. Well the whole cruise they didnt have their stuff. They bought a few things on the ship but not like you can buy that much clothes

Rental insurance covers you when you leave home... That's what they told me any way.

We got travel insurance, I should find out how much it covers for lost lugg.

I heard of someone who got a knock at the door like at 4am with the luggage but I don't remember how long they waited for it, coming back from Italy. I had mine misplaced but that was 15 years ago.

Ugh, that is such a bummer for you after such a magnificent few weeks. I did once lose a bag and never got it back. It ****** as it had all my best holiday stuff too. The issue was not that they didn't compensate me, they did, but there was a $1500 limit IIRC and my stuff was way more valuable than that :(

this happened to me. I flew united air but somehow my luggage ended up on a continental flight No one knew what happened but a few days later continental called and said they had it, luckily I had luggage tags on the bags. It took like a week to get my stuff, it was so frustrating!

thank you so much, i just checked our insurance and its only $1,000 which pisses me off. If it was another suitcase it wouldn't be bad but this is one that was filled with suits and button downs and other stuff

it is so frustrating and when i call its like no sorry still didnt find it, no record of it. First of all what do you mean no record it was checked in after asking that 1 question 3x the guy finally understood and said oh yes it was checked in at nice, i ask after if theres any record of it being checked in madrid or was nice the last place they know of its existence and they just say dont know, well its either yes or no. Its just annoying and now im annoyed bc i just saw that iberia airlines is ranked #1 at lost luggage and also read consumer affairs website and people complained about never getting it back or when they did most of their stuff was gone from the luggage so im afraid of that happening. Now ive tried calling again to let them know there was a big white ribbon i tied around the handle and we had a sticker on it from the hotel when we left it there for them to hold after we checked out and waiting for our car but the guy wont put that info in the computer which i think is very helpful and just tells me to fax them a list of everything that was in the suitcase to better help them locate it sorry im just really annoyed

Re: lost luggage, getting worried

I can't believe this awful situation happened on your honeymoon. I really hope that the airport(s) can retrieve your bag. Have you already began making an itemized list? I had to do that once, but I finally received my bag after I returned from my trip...so I had to do all my shopping while I was away, just another added expense.

Please keep us posted. I hope everything works out for you

WELCOME BACK!!!
They lost my luggage once going to spring break in alculpoco... took 4 days to get it there- It was on continental. Most cases I've heard it takes a couple days- but eventually (as long as the tags are on it) it finds it's way back. Unfortunately my friend just had hers lost on the way to her HM and when she finally got it- there was a lot missing... Good LUCK!! ***** it was that bag too.....
