Making a guest pay for their dinner??

Making a guest pay for their dinner??

Is anyone toying with the idea of the same thing they did on Whose Wedding is it Anyway when people showed up that did not rsvp

The Coordinator was the one who handled it since guests with no escort card (or placecard) were told to see her. She told some guy that the couple requested that people who did not RSVP pay for dinner since the head count was sent in well in advance (and after the RSVP date). I am not sure if I could do it but paying someone to do it would be GREAT

I was in an OOT wedding (my sister and I were BM's) and my uncle had at least 20 people show up that did not RSVP for his wedding on Saturday

Granted, they were invited and if they show up I suppose, like my uncle did, the couple can grin and bear it. But how hard is it to fill in a name and mail a pre-stamped RSVP card

I could never do that. Granted the people should have rsvp'd or at least called, but i could never ask them to pay their own plate.

I know it's annoying when people don't RSVP. but I think it's up to the bride and groom to reach out to those people and get a straight answer.

I don't think it's acceptable to make people pay for their plate at a wedding.

haha...I think that's an excellent idea. Good luck you're likely to get an earful about this

Re: Making a guest pay for their dinner??

One wedding planner friend of mine said a bride he worked with got a bill for $12K the night of her wedding due to people who did not RSVP showing up. Apparently there was some penalty clause in her contract for extra guests. The hall (not sure which one) threatened to stop her reception :-0

He said she was in the bathroom ripping into envelopes to see how much cash she had And it was NOT $12K. The wedding continued but only after the finances were resolved by her family members and friends in attendance.

I hope so. My sister (a BM in the wedding) never sent in her RSVP either

I can't really see the point of making people pay. Some people don't RSVP -- there isn't much you can do about it. If you invited them someone wanted them to come. Way go out of your way to offend them ... you can be much more subtle.Seat them at a lame table in back under a speaker!! And make sure you skip over them (by accident of course) when you do your table visits. :>

Seriously ... I was a week behind my floor plan because of late RSVPs. At some point you just have to say F*** it. If they show up, they'll sit at which ever table has room even if they know anyone at that table.

Oh, you know us so well!!

I think it's funny to imagine, but I don't think I could ever ask a guest to do that. Altho I'd be super pissed if they didn't rsvp and showed up. But I'll be on the phone with anyone I don't hear from and I'll make sure they're not coming beforehand.

That stinks. It's very rude, and then everything is interupted when the waiters move in more table settings and chairs.
I plan on having my mom and MIL track people down the week before the wedding if they do not RSVP.

You can't make them pay! that is so rude! You can forget them being friends with you after that!!!

I agree no RSVP'ing is annoying, but...

Yeah, I think it can be very disruptive. And some people don't even have the decency to try to sit in the back - they want to have a table put up front so they can see everything

My grandma says NOT to call people She thinks couples do enough by sending out STD's and invites (after collecting addresses). She does a ton of weddings (a seamstress) so I guess she hears about this stuff all the time.

I have no idea if my uncle made calls in advance since I sent in my RSVP within a few hours of receiving the invite. However, I can say that a GM brought a date that he NEVER mentioned in advance. And he drove into town (a couple of days before the wedding) with his date (never once thinking to call to say he was bringing a guest)

If I was PMSing, I wouldn't ask them to pay, I'd probably ask them to leave!!! If you didn't RSVP, then at that point, you would be considered a wedding crasher in my eyes!!

You have 4-6 weeks to decide if it's worth it to be at my wedding. If you couldn't take a walk to a mailbox, but have the gall to show up because you decided last minute maybe my wedding would be worth going to after all, then you don't deserve to be seated next to the people who did care enough to make an effort!!

I dont think I could tell people to pay either...I might be a little mean every so often but I dont think I could do it to guests on my wedding day.

Though it is a VERY good idea!

I couldn't ask them to pay, but they would def. be off my xmas card list. I plan on having my mom or moh call everyone a week before to confirm numbers.

Honestly I would never ever think of doing that. If I don't have an answer before I need to give my reception location the final number I will have a family member call whoever has not yet RSVP'ed.

I agree. The bride and groom need to contact these people and find out if they are going. Some people think that they only need to respond if they can not make the wedding. I don't know where this idea comes from, some people are clueless.
