You can't always look at it form a textbook perspective. Often TV ads are used to generate awareness because the results are so hard to track. They are often just want part of a 'campaign' From what I understand from a friend who knows someone that works at Quiznos is that they are coupling the ads with coupons that are being distributed that should be driving the sales.

I dont' know- I still dont' buy it.. they aren't building a brand image with those rats.. not when you compare campaigns by other fastfood restaurants (i.e. McDonalds, 'I'm Loving It' or Subway 'the it's OK I had Subway', etc)... what message is Quiznos trying to convey, 'we have stupid animals as mascots'
It's like that bad andy- he was a HUGE flop.

I don't think the rats will be there mascots forever. This was absolutely an attention getter campaign. And it seems to be doing that.
Sometimes new companies just need to do that. Mascots are dangerous. The Taco Bell dog was pulled originally because it was talking over Taco Bells brand. It had nothing to do with the sales. But in the beginning it generated a lot of awareness for Taco bell which is what it needed. Watch how it unfolds.
The ads will become more tame but the agency they are using is known for this kind of stuff which is why they switched. They needed to generate some buzz and that has been done!

I worked on the Geico Gecco ads, and they were a huge hit for Geico-they even sell the stupid gecco bobblehead dolls on their website now. For the car insurance market, name recognition is key, since they really all offer the same basic services...so the gecco was good for them. The first thing I thought when I saw those Quiznos commercials was 'what the hel! is that, this is the most annoying commercial ever!' Then I thought, this is going to be a huge campain as everyone will be talking about it.

I haven't seen the commercials. I guess since they are so many locations in Chicago, they don't have to do much promotion.
Although they sound gross...Quizno's has the best subs. Once you had them you can't go back to Subway or Blimpie (are those still around?)

I totally understand what you all are saying about raising awareness. Which is great. I love geico commercials.
I am not a marketing person but what I don't understand with the current Quiznos commericals is that its a food company and how can they generate sales when their commercials are gross.
The taco bell dog looked clean and funny. I just don't see how associating food with anything gross is good.
I mean I have not eaten Quiznos since. Its just disgusting. Why can't they raise awareness with something cute and clean looking.

Personally I think the commercials are doing there job look we have a thread on here about it, Quiznos is recent out here in LI but they were established in other places, so I dont think this campaign is going to break them, From What I understand they are doing well and when I saw the commercial I didnt think they were rats I thought they were wraps with eyes, so again eveyone has a different perception on what it is!

They are pretty nasty looking. But the signing voices and what they are singing does make me laugh. Besides, having had Quiznos subs way before I saw the commercial, I would eat there no matter what their commercials said. Those subs are phenomenal!!!

I don't think you can compare Bud to Quiznos.. Bud already HAS major market share, Quiznos does not.

Re: Marketing People Who in the World Makes Quiznos Commericals
True but if you are talking about things that gross people out that may be a major turn off. Frogs and beer? Just because a company has major market share doesn't mean they don't have to worry about losing customers. As I said this isn't a branding campaign for them. Just an awareness one. and how many hours later are we all still talking about it!

Absolutely this was definitely a brillaint campaign people are still talking about it! Whether good or bad it is publicity and I doubt this would seriously deter people from eating there great food, now if it was some raunchy food Place I could see your point.

I think its gross. I knew about them before, but there are none near me, so I've never been. I thought i would if i was near oen sometime. But now I won't b/c its a gross association. What's the poitn of people talking about your product, if they won't buy it.
They are not that big in Manhattan. I think I've passed by 2, not sure where. Subway is all over the place--not forgotten. They may take bussiness from Blimpie, but not Subway, at least not now.

Give it a chance....They are big here in Chicago now. When I moved here 4 years ago they were 1 or 2 here and there, now they are popping up everywhere.
Once you try it you won't want go back to Subway. I had Subway a few weeks ago and I was so disappointed. It just doesn't compare
