Mexico or Dominican Republic?

Quick q ladies...where would you rather go on vacation....to DR or Mexico. DH and i are thinking of going on vacation in November....probably won't be able to afford to go on one for awhile...so might as well live it up.

we've both been to mexico before, but we really LOVED it, so we wouldn't mind going back. but at the same time, DR sounds nice.

either way, we'd go for 5 days, all inclusive.....opinions?? or ideas for resorts in either country.

okay i see where the confusion was--this is the new Excellence resort--the original Secrets Punta Cuna resort--is under new management and won't be re-opening until 2008. that's why there was a confusion, cause this resort you linked me to is the Excellence resorts--not Secrets!

Exactly..the resort in Punta Cana is just Excellence resorts now...I went a few years ago when it was 'Secrets Excellence' and I am going back again on Mon for 5 nights...It is definitely open!!

I will post pics when I get back (Sat the 30th).

I def. prefer the DR over Mexico ( Riviera Maya/Cancun). You get such a better value for the $ and the natural beauty of DR is incredible! FH and I went years ago and it was far and away our best vacation! Which has made it really difficult to decide on a HM destination!

i've been to both and i would chose mexico.
we went to secrets excellece in punta cana in dec 05 and we loved it.
then in july 06 we went to aventura spa palace in rieviera maya mexio.
the food in the dominican is not nearly as good as the food in mexico. i didn't like the meat or milk(texture/taste) in DR. i have pics in my album of our mexico vaca.

Liked DR alot better. Beaches were GORGEOUS, food was great, and it was cheaper in general than Mexico

We went to Punta Cana DR and we stayed at the Melia Tropical, an all inclusive!!!! It was AMAZING we had such a great time there!! i highly recommend it and it was inexpensive!!!!

Definitley Mexico. My fiance and I thought DR was gorgeous, but the food was horrible. We stayed at a really beautiful hotel and could not eat anything. People that were regulars of the DR said that the food at our hotel was the best on the island and we couldn't believe it! At least in Mexico there is some pretty good dining! IMO-food is very important when on vacation and the bad food was a big disappoinment!-But keep in mind, this is my personal opinion and taste!

As a Dominicana, I have to say DR!!!!! I've been to Mexico too (like 3 times!) but I like DR better. The resorts are great, the food is better. There are some nice all inclusive resorts in Puerto Plata (north) in the Playa Dorada area. But I hear the ones in Punta Cana blow them away! I'm dying to go to Punta Cana one day!

For our honeymoon we are doing it again but the one in Punta Cana DR and they are the EXCELLENCE Resort. SECRETS will be opening 2008 and 2009-we wanted to go to the one in LA ROMANA DR or MAROMA BEACH Mexico, but those open next year
DEFINETLY do an adults only...seriously..I am a teacher and love kids but no matter HOW MUCH hotels with kids state that the kids wont disturb yyour honeymoon, its bullcrap. They can't help it-they're kids. Some places have optionss where you have a private pool for the adults but during dinner you will still hear whining and screaming. FH and I have noticed that on vacations, many parents are more lax because hey, it's their vacation too and they want to enjoy it. Which is fine, but NOT when Im paying all this moola for peace

Jamaica is supposed to have beautiful affordable adults-only all inclusives as well.

Melissa went to Jamaica for her honeymoon so I doubt she wants to go back so soon, but I LOVED Negril!!! Couples Swept Away rocked!

We wanted to go back to Mexico but it was more expensive than DR surprisingly because DR was having a special for Excellence-essentially two for the price of one. We did a few vacations with kids allowed places and eh..after going to an adults only place, we are SOOO SPOILED! The best part about Mexico for anyone thinking of it, is if you want an adults only all inclusive, they have the best selection and most affordable prices because its just a huge country and they have the room to put up a dozen all inclusive adults places and still make money. Small countries and islands have to worry about generating as much revenue as they can. so catering to families is a smarter choice.

Wow! That will be a tough decision for me. I went to both places and stayed in the Iberostar Resorts. Iberostar Dominicana was a lot cheaper than Iberostar Paraiso Lindo in Mexico. But I can't even chose. You will have fun in either one you go to. They both have delicious food and beautiful beaches. I must honestly say that Punta Cana had a better beach when I went in 2005. I am not saying that the beach in Riviera Maya is not beautiful b/c it is but just during my stay it was a tiny bit rocky but still very enjoyable.
It's been so difficult to chose a honeymoon b/c we had so much fun in DR and Mexico but we figure we go somewhere different and get to know other islands so we are most likely going to Couples Swept Away in Negril or Sandals Whitehouse.
