Haha. I bet you guys know where I'm going with this one.
What he did last night was despicable and treacherous. IMO he ought to be tried for treason. To go onstage before a WORLDWIDE audience for an entertainment program in the middle of a war and say what he said about the President of the United States is disgraceful. I am very glad that I have not yet seen a movie of his, nor do I ever intend to.
Even Sarandon and Babs had the common sense to keep their freakin yaps shut last night.

Re: Michael Moore
Although I wholeheartedly disagree with what he said, it makes me proud to be an american that he could say it. We are fighting a war particially because the citizen of Iraq are killed for voicing their disagreement with the government. How lucky for us that we have the right to say what we feel without danger of tyranny! Good for him for demonstrating what makes America great, freedom!

Re: Michael Moore
Here is part of it:
'We like nonfiction and we live in fictitious times. We live in a time where we have fictitious election results, that elect a fictitious president. We live in a time where we have a man sending us to war for fictitious reasons,' Moore said.
I read he called him a terrorist as well.

Re: Michael Moore
The whole thing
ACCEPTANCE SPEECH Michael Moore: Whoa. On behalf of our producers Kathleen Glynn and Michael Donovan from Canada, I'd like to thank the Academy for this. I have invited my fellow documentary nominees on the stage with us, and we would like to — they're here in solidarity with me because we like nonfiction. We like nonfiction and we live in fictitious times. We live in the time where we have fictitious election results that elects a fictitious president. We live in a time where we have a man sending us to war for fictitious reasons. Whether it's the fictition of duct tape or fictition of orange alerts we are against this war, Mr. Bush. Shame on you, Mr. Bush, shame on you. And any time you got the Pope and the Dixie Chicks against you, your time is up. Thank you very much.
I agree... WHAT A D*CK!!!!

Re: Michael Moore
Steve Martin had a great line in response to this I thought. He said 'Right now the Teamsters are escorting Michael Moore into the trunk of his car!' I thought that was a good one!

Re: Michael Moore
I have to agree with Valenia. While I don't know that his acceptance speech was the time to discuss his political beliefs, I think what we should remember is that, this war we are fighting is to free other people from a government that does not allow them the freedom to express their beliefs. And in our country, I am so glad that we are able to do that!!!!!

Re: Michael Moore
Just as we all have the right to post our opinions of Michael Moore's acceptance speech on this board, he had the right to speak his mind during his speech. For the record I do not feel that it was the right place or time for him to express his political views, but he is guaranteed that right by the Constitution of the United States.
We, as Americans, are fortunate that we have this right and it should never, ever be taken for granted. Simply because his view may not be the popular one, or it may be different from ours, does not mean that he cannot express it publicly. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and to the freedom to express it.

Re: Michael Moore
As much as I agree with the fact that he has a right to his feelings and to say what he wants, I think what he did last night was disgusting.
There are men and women fighting for our country and for freedom. By going on TV and talking like that, I feel it is a slap in the face to the families left here while there loved ones are fighting a war. Remember, without some of the brave servicepeople, past and present, we wouldn't have that freedom. Have some respect from them and their families! Just My Opionion!

Re: Michael Moore
Thank you!!! I totally agree that everyone has a right to an opinion, but I think when it comes down to it; we are at war now......show respect for your servicemen and women and your country. Also, it bothers me that so many of the people protesting the war don't seem to really know what it is about. They are uneducated as to what we are doing....if you have an opinion that is fine, but please be educated about it.

Re: Michael Moore
And that's all I meant. Do I REALLY think he should be tried for treason. No. But what he said was disgusting, disrespectful and disgraceful.
No, the one who should be tried for treason for real is the American soldier who grenaded 3 tents full of the 101st Airborne and then shot them with his rifle as they attempted to run out of the tents. He should be court martialed, tried and put to death.

Re: Michael Moore
I agree that even though we value that the right to speak our minds, there is also a time & a place for everything. Several people spoke last night regarding the situation in Iraq, but did so in a appropriate manner.
What he said was truly Anti American. Especially in light of the subj matter of his film, which was commendable, his speech was a disgrace! I think his career and public opinion will suffer b/c of this.

' I have invited my fellow documentary nominees on the stage with us, and we would like to — they're here in solidarity with me because we like nonfiction.'
I wonder if they all knew what they were standing up for when they got up there.
I agree he has a right to voice his opinion as we all do but this was not the forum to do it. He is an opportunist and unfortunately took untimely advantage of an honor his profession bestowed upon.

Re: Michael Moore
I was laughing at his speach, i couldnt believe he got up there and said that. Its an awards show that a lot of people were looking forward too.
Though I did like that guy who won for the Pianist, his speach was tasteful and respectful. He wished for a peaceful resolution and for his friends to come home safely.
