money is tight and I was wondering

money is tight and I was wondering

What do you think a photographer would say if we only wanted the proofs, no albums, or thank you's etc. we can get all of that done a little after the wedding.. do you think it would make a big difference in price.. I was going to ask duet, but i feel dumb.. We're thinking that with any monetary gifts we get at the wedding that can pay for our albums, and things.. It takes people so long anyway, to get all the proofs together for the album.. I don't even know if i'm making sense.. jsut wondering if it would save money.. any input would be great..

dont feel dumb!! im sure alot of people do this. you get all the proofs and you can make an album out of that and then when you have more $$ go back and make your professional album. also you can take the proofs and go to kinkos.. i think for a 5x7 copy of a picture is like .47 cents and you can make copies of your favorites and buy plain albums from target or wherever to give as gifts to your parents. Just have in writing the cost of the albums when you book so that when you go back its not a higher price.

eta - the same goes with the kinko copies for your thankyous. you can make your own on the computer and make the wallet sized copies to stick in them as long as you dont have a million guests it should cost that much at all --- or see if you can get them thrown in free with the package you want

We went to Silverfox and they told us that you can do that if you want. We are definetly having $$$$concerns as we are paying for this ourselves. They told us all of thier packages are a la carte and the photgraphers just shoot away. Good luck

JZNICK... that's exactly what my FH and I wanted... we want to be able to do exactly what we want with the pics after the wedding, so all we wanted was the proofs... that's the exact package I got with 12th Night... two photographers, one for 8 hours, one for 3, we get all the proofs, but no thank you's or albums... price is about $1400... it works really well for us b/c my FH's family is in Israel, so I'll just put the pics on shutterfly and they can order whatever they want

Peter Jacobsen (on nsgrahams budget page) let's brides do their own albums. I want my photographer to make my albums but in our meeting with Peter - he told us how we could make them ourselves.
There is a photographer who works with Jerry at Bliss who also offers this I think.
I cannot remember her name but she shares an office with him so you can call his number and she may even pick up the phone. If not - say you are calling for photography.

Sometimes photographers do payments...1/3 when you book...1/3 at the wedding and 1/3 when you pick up proofs. The last 1/3 is after your wedding so you can use some wedding money. Maybe that will work for you.

We're using Twelfth Night too. We get the two photographers (who do large format, black and white and digital) and then we get all our proof and negatives. The price depends upon how long you have each photographer.

That is how I booked Silverfox.
John the owner sid that we could choose to add the albums whenever we wanted.

I know my quote from Twelfth Night was just for proofs and negatives, so they definitely do it.

ETA: I probably should have continued reading all the posts since everyone else said this too!!

Don't forget, you need more than just your proofs - you need your negatives, and a letter from the photographer stating that you have the rights to the photos and can make copies. Kinko's or any other reputable copy place will not make reproductions because that is a copyright infringement.

We're using a local photojournalist for this reason. We really do not want to go overboard with spending money, and she gives us all of our proofs in an album. They are all 4x6's with a white border (I love that look!). Plus we own our negatives and can make our albums at our convenience. I say go for it. Who needs an overpriced album anyway? Do it later on when you have the moeny.

Keep in mind you dont have to pay your photographer his whole feel before the wedding! MOst photographers we saw, you pay a deposit on signing, then another deposit a month before and teh rest is after the wedding!

I think that is a good idea...besides, I thought you paid the final payment when you got either your proofs or your album...so that gives you time. Also, another great way to save $$ is to skip favors and an unnecessary 'little' things like menus, programs. We didn't have them and no one missed them

why not? if you have the proofs and you go up the the machine and make copies they are going to stop you?? I understand your point about getting the letter but I dont think kinkos even looks at what your copying let along cares.

negatives produce higher quality...

for every place that won't replicate, there is one that will...

same here... we went into the selection process knowing i would be taking care of the albums myself. our photographer has agreed to work with me in finding the best rate for a digital album if i deem it affordable and am happy with a layout i create. if i go the traditional route, my photographer will point me in the right direction to make affordable prints...

We are using Vivd photography and we are only gettng the proof package. We have 2 photographers for the full day. they are chargin us 995, that will include all the proofs. I really liked there work and they really listened to the types of pics I was looking for.
