Moneybag or 'Moneybox'?

What is everyone doing?
Getting a moneybag or a money type box to put all the envelopes in?
I just saw pictures of my friends cousin's wedding and she had a birdcage for her envelopes!
Yes sounds strange but it was diffferent!

Re: Moneybag or 'Moneybox'?

Actually birdcages are pretty common from what I've seen at weddings. This was a 'hot' topic a while ago...I wonder if you did a search whether or not you can still find it.

Personally, I'm doing a box of some sort...not sure yet exactly, but not the bag.

Re: Moneybag or 'Moneybox'?

I've seen birdcages too! I think it is the latest thing. I saw it in a bridal mag regently also. I personally don't like the idea of walking around with a money bag...just not my style. My cousin had a nice basket sitting on the placecard table that looked very nice and was very classy. I just think that walking around and collecting your gifts is a bit tacky.

Re: Moneybag or 'Moneybox'?

Stores like Michaels sell nice rustic old fashioned looking ones. They are very stylish now...i've seen decorative birdcages in Pottery Barn, Pier 1, etc.

Happy planning all

Re: Moneybag or 'Moneybox'?

I am most likely going to use a birdcage as well. My FMIL is close with a woman who owns a silk flower store in Massapequa so we'll be using the one from there. I've seen the birdcage and it is beautiful. The woman does a nice job and uses very nice flowers/vines.

Re: Moneybag or 'Moneybox'?

I was totally for the birdcage - I hate those gift lines that somehow form as soon as one person kisses the bride goodbye when there is still an hour left to the wedding! But, I was looking through my baptismal stuff the other day, and in there was a money bag and a garter! Turns out that my first cousin / BM grandmother made it for me out of some of my christening stuff when I was still a baby! It is definitley old looking, but just for sentiment sake I have to use it!

Re: Moneybag or 'Moneybox'?

I used a 'moneybox'...my sister wrapped a box like a present and then cut a hole in it...

I think it was the best thing, b/c people give you cards at the most unusual times...when you wouldn't carry a bag around...

the way it worked for us was when my bridal assistant saw me carrying ANY cards...she would take them from me and put them in the box...it worked out perfectly...

Re: Moneybag or 'Moneybox'?

Yabbobay, where was the box? Was it near your table? Could guests see it and put their own cards in it? I am doing the gift box thing too but I am not sure where I should put it.

Re: Moneybag or 'Moneybox'?

A friend of mine is getting married a month after me and we actually had this conversation last night. She's doing a money bag because she feels that a mailbox, birdcage and gift box is not personal. I plan on doing a mailbox/birdcage type of thing so I don't have to carry a money bag around with me, worry about losing it. You do hear stories about envelopes being stolen (sad but true) and with the mail box, birdcage and gift box it's more secure. You can still go around and greet guest w/o a moneybag.

Re: Moneybag or 'Moneybox'?

guests gave me the cards directly...when I thank them of course at that point...and then the cards went into the box...the box was behind and to the side of our table...but nobody put it in themselves...I wouldn't have wanted them too!

Re: Moneybag or 'Moneybox'?

Somebody mentioned a a week or two ago about a moneybox in the design of a wedding cake that you could purchase from the Lillian Vernon website , I looked at the site, and it looked pretty nice. Here is the link for anybody interested:

Re: Moneybag or 'Moneybox'?

yup Jenn, that was me. I ordered it last week from Lillian Vernon online...and let me tell you, for $39, it is well worth it. This box is made very well and looks even better when you receive it. The personalization looks great too. I love it!!

I am using hat boxes to form a 3 tier wedding cake with no pedestals. It is going to look like my wedding cake.

Re: Moneybag or 'Moneybox'?

I'll be using a satin moneybag that my sister used when she got married. My grandmother will be the keeper of the bag, so no need to worry about carrying it around with me all night.

Re: Moneybag or 'Moneybox'?

I am using a birdcage as well. My aunt will decorate it with fall silk flowers and I bought ribbon that matches the girls dresses. I also like the idea that you can use it again and hang it up with flowers in it or candles.

Re: Moneybag or 'Moneybox'?

I had a birdcage and a moneybag. The birdcage was sentimental because all of my friends have used it. We just changed the flowers to compliment our girls' dresses. The first one of my friends used it in 1998. Guess it's not such a new thing afterall?! Most people just put their cards in the cage, but I had to have the moneybag because my oldest friend's mom made it for me, and well, it just wouldn't have been an Italian wedding without it!
