FH finally set up the account after it being on his TO-Do list for months!
And We just recieved the little cards to include with the shower invitations!! They are actually very cute. I wish I had a scanner to show you.But on the one side it says 'A Bridal Registry Account has been set up for ______ & _______' The & sign is actually two wedding bands. then it explains what it is. On the other side, which is detachable is a note to us from our friends and family after they deposited money to tell us that they did it.

Re: Mortgage Bridal Registry Account
Why ?
I realize its a way of asking for $- and I realize some people dont like the idea of this registry- but as for FH and I- we dont care- whoever will contribute will and whoever wont wont. We are also registering at a regular store for minimal stuff. We have lived together for way too long and dont need much of any material things.

Ok, I will bite.
I think it is quite wrong to solicit money from people. I would never do this.

Sorry ~ I think it is tacky. JMO
ETA: FI and I have also been living together for over 5 years. I plan on registering for new stuff and then tossing the old when we move into a new house after the wedding.

Re: Mortgage Bridal Registry Account
HOW can you ask people to give you $$ for your mortagage?
That is unheard of even for the pushiest of people!
Tacky!
If you can't afford a house save don't ask people to contribute for it~

Re: Mortgage Bridal Registry Account
Well, I think its a good way to ask for $ with what your intentions for the money are. I was not going to include the cards that came with it but come up with creative ones of my own like 'help our love nest grow' or something like that...but the cards are acutally very cute and tactful (sp?). And tha tis why we are still registering for regular stuff- to give everyone options...

Re: Mortgage Bridal Registry Account
I'll try to explain (at least how I feel about it) - I originally had posted about a Honeymoon Registry b/c I saw a website on it and people did not have a good response either - and after I really thought about it, I agreed. It is not your wedding guests responsibility to send you on a honeymoon, or to help you buy a house. Most people end up putting the money they get from the wedding towards a house anyway. If you want to make sure you get money and not household presents, maybe dont register for anything and people will (hopefully) give you money. But, IMO it's crass to ask people to contribute to your 'house fund.'

Re: Mortgage Bridal Registry Account
I never heard of that before...if that is what you chose to do then who cares what we think...I wish I had the nerve to do that for my house, but I wouldn't

Re: Mortgage Bridal Registry Account
Im probably going to register at a few stores too even though we have been living with each other for 3 years. In essence its a good idea, but I see how many have a problem with it. On one hand, people want to give you what you need. And what you need is money. On the other hand, people might see it as you only wanting money. I know everyone here is coming down pretty harsh on you, and although I dont agree with your choice, you do what you have to do. Take care of your own business and dont take everyone's opinion to heart. Good luck

Re: Mortgage Bridal Registry Account
I'm sorry if you are feeling attacked, but you have to realize that this is quite tacky. It makes you seem like you are desperate for money or that you can't afford your wedding. If I ever received something like this I would think it was laughable. Be prepared for many of your guests to have this same reaction.

Re: Mortgage Bridal Registry Account
I dont' see why everyone is calling this poor girl tacky! all she did was post what she and her fiance did - she wasn't asking for opinions! i think it's tacky for people to tell her that the idea itself is tacky. if you don't want to do that for yourself - that's fine, but why the need to pass judgement on others!?
A registry is soliciting gifts from people, is it not?
Palebride--I understand what your saying, but she did go
Why ?

Re: Mortgage Bridal Registry Account
I don't think it's a bad idea. Some people may not like it, but if people already live together, they don't really need anything that they would get at a bridal shower, so what point is it in someone spending $100 on some item that the person doesn't even need? I think saving for the house is most important, not getting stuff for it that you already have with an apartment.
Oh, and just remember most of your wedding gifts will probably be monetary which can go towards a mortgage.
