anyone planning on living someplace other than NY after they are married....we have been talking about moving to SC.....FH parents are not happy about these discussions bc FH brother just moved to alabama in February....but we think that we will be able to live more comfortably down there. FH has been applying to Police depts down there and FMIL keeps tellling him he should apply to alabama......that way they can move down there and we can be all together.....but FH and i like SC better.....alabama is way to down south for us....anywho sorry for rambling...but i was just curious if anyone else was thinking about moving off LI due to absurd cost of living

Re: moving
YES!!!!!
I am from upstate and I hate, hate, hate Long Island (no offense). The cost of living kills me. My FH and I make great money but buying a house here is insane. I want to have a house AND be able to live a fun, comfortable life. My brother and his fiance live upstate and have a beautiful 3 bedroom house that they got for $52,000. INSANE!!!!!! We're so jealous of them!
We're debating upstate, ME, CT, VT, PA or SC....
just get me off this island!
Our wedding is 2/29/08. I'm hoping we move sometime in 2008. I want to find a job, move and start baby making!

Re: moving
FH and I always talk about moving because it is way too expensive to live on LI but we don't really know where to go.

Re: moving
We are hoping that enough people leave LI that the market drops!
I've talked to FH about moving out of state. I think for now we will be staying and trying to make it. But the idea of moving is in the back of our minds if we can't make it.

But yesterday he got a big promotion at work and big pay increase and normally he works in the city but he'll be in charge of the work his company does in LI...but so many of you are making such big moves and im complaining about suffolk lol

Re: moving
YES!!!
We're really considering SC--FH's parents live there, and if we have one or 2 kids while we're still living in NY, my parents will have their time with the kids. And when we move, then FH's parents will be able to be with the kids too.
NY is too crazy, and cold in the winter. Any place else just seems so nice and relaxing which is what we really need.

yes, after we are married we plan on moving out of state before we buy a house. we watch House Hunters all the time and think 'GEEEEZ look at those mansions people are buying in Charleston for 175K!!' seriously, it blows my mind. after we make and save our NY $$, we are outta here!!

Re: moving
I am currently living in northern Va with FH. Its even more expensive there than LI (thats b/c allthe houses are brand new) I really miss my family, the food and hte people here in LI. I love coming home. FH and I want to move back to NY as soon as we can. We'll prolly do westchester b/c FH does not like the clo se proximity of houses here on the island. His aunt lives in northern westchester and he likes it there. WE are also thinking of CT

Well it certainly matters how far out in suffolk county. It cracks me up when people think I'm out east. Out east to me is where the island actually forks into the North Fork and the South Fork.
I like the space in Suffolk. The property lots seems kind of small to me in Nassau and when I see the property tax is higher!

Re: moving
FH's company is really taking off. We would like to look for places in queens but really houses are pretty expensive and even condos. We like PA but i'm getting second thoughts about it. I will definitely miss NYC if we move.
