first - congrats to FH that is such great news!!!

second - i refuse to leave QUEENS! I really want to be close to my parents and the rest of my family. . . AND free babysitters!

Actually I made a deal with FH that if we move to LI like he wants to that I won't have to work ( totally kidding)

He owns his own business so we really can't move that far. But honestly, my dream is to buy a house in Howard Beach!

if we HAD to move - we would only move to teh FLorida Keys LOL

btw my cousin lives in Massapequa Park and she loves it there! she is getting used to living in a 'town' she calls me all the time like 'THEY ARE HAVING A PARADE' or 'THEY ARE DOING A TREE LIGHTING' we are like in awe of long island LOL

honestly, when she first moved we both cried pracitically every time we talked on the phone bc it really felt like she was so far away - but its not that far!!

Unfortunately, now she has a twohour commute to Maspeth!

Re: moving

Nothing wrong with moving. You can get a huge house down south for half the price of something in NY. I cant leave my job and neither can FH, if we could move we probably would.

Re: moving

we are just talking about it right now but the more we talk the more it makes sense for us to move....this one police dept FH is looking at is a lateral transfer from the NYPD so no police cademy again and he would only be making 5,000 less than what he is make here...which will go a lot further down there...plus i have some fmily down there and some more family in NC but its only 2 hours from where we are looking in SC....im still torn though about leaving NY..i

Re: moving

I moved out of Long Island when I was 23. I moved to Boston, then Charlotte North Carolina, now I'm in Philly. I loved growing up on Long Island but didn't want to live there. I didn't want to struggle with money since its so expensive to live there and the crowds used to kill me. I hated the anxiety it gave me just going to the movies!
Anyway I have city hopped looking to find the right place for me. Boston was amazing, but still very expensive and even colder then NY. I always have a soft spot for Boston (Go Sox!) Charlotte was a great city, just not for me. I hated being so far from my family in NY and I just couldnt' get past how small the city was (comparing it to NY and Boston). I had lots of friends there but was just never happy there. I missed the northeast. So I moved to Philly (FH lived there) and its the perfect fit for me. We live in the burbs outside of Philly and its no where near as expensive as LI, but its a great place to live. The city is awesome, not as big as New York but has everything you need in a major city. ITs close to the Jersey shore, close to skiing it in the Pocones and has lots of character. Plus its only a 2 hour and 15 mintue drive to my parents house. I have family in NJ too so this is the perfect place for me.

My advice on moving out of Long Island make is move somewhere where you know people. Its hard moving to a city and not knowing a single person, especially coming from a place where you were surrounded by family and friends. It makes it so much easier.
Also spend as much time as possible in your new city before moving there. When I moved to Charlotte I had spent a couple of weekends there and loved it. I never got a real feeling for the city being that that longest i Had been there was a few days...

So think about it. I missed being close to NY. I like being able to drive home and see my parents every weekend if I wanted.
not sure why I'm rambling I just thought I would chime in since I moved from NY so long ago and have had a little experience.
Enough with my rambling - off to bed!

Fh actually suggested moving to florida, his company has a headquarters there and would be able to work there, he loved coconut grove, which is gorgeous lol but i cant lol, im having a hard time moving to LI i am the worst whats wrong with me lol. His company also has a place in vegas but no way, he wouldnt leave the casinos lol

My dad had a condo on palm beach, it was actually right on the beach, he sold it I wish he still had it, it wouldve been great going there like you said just to get away, he was thinking of getting another one but well see.

New York for life, baby.

I cannot imagine getting a non-NY drivers license!!! This sounds silly, but I have NY pride and I'm proud to live in nyc!

We're looking at buying on either LI ( I want eastern Suffolk - Setauket, Port Jeff, Sag Harbor...) and FH wants Nassau), Westchester, or Greenwich, CT. I can't be more than a train ride away from manhattan. It's become home to me!

Dag-namit, I miss NY

i know i honestly cant imagine living anywhere but NY...i mean for me its hard now to think of LI and its not even far from the city lol...I grew up in astoria which was 13 mins on the dot away from the city, then to think an hour train ride hopefully not that long and thats weird to me lol

and its not that im afraid to try new things or open my mind but this type of city life is just who i am

Yes i really think FH will get something down there for the winters even though we are young, he realized when we went to florida for 2 weeks that he could totally work remotely and run the office. so why not do it in warm weather!!!

the prices were amazing years ago seriously the houses and condos you were able to get for those prices and in amazing locations was insane, they went up a decent amount but of course still better than here. Its weird i didnt like florida, but the last time we went to coconut grove i liked it, i think it had alot to do with being on vacation, i tell fh this all the time like he says he would move to vegas, i said no way you have fun going there for a week but you cant live there...My aunt had 2 houses in vegas and after a year she sold them, my dad who lives in casinos hated it after a week lol. Its nice though to have a house to go to once in a while, hopefully my dad buys another one soon lol...he buys property and does this so ill save myself the trouble lol

Re: moving

I have no idea where I'll be living after the wedding - FH will be finishing med school, and will know in March '08 where he gets his residency. He's lived in Boston for the last 3 yrs, commuting back here almost every weekend (that's love). Obviously we want to stay here (Brooklyn), with my family, and close to his family in LI, but we have to be realistic about it - we may end up g*d knows where.... hopefully somewhere warmer!! It will be hard to leave Brooklyn - lived here all my life. I can't imagine myself in a suburb, or out of NY in general. It's so darn expensive here though. Just hoping everything works out for the best!!!
