My Christmas gift baskets are done!
I have to share - I saw this in a magazine, and I've been meaning to replicate it for weeks! Here's the finished product....inside each basket is a jar, with all the ingredients to make either apple muffins or cheese potato soup.I made 4 all together - 2 for managers at work, and 1 to two of my close friends:

Re: My Christmas gift baskets are done!
Great work, I wish I was that crafty so I could maybe save some $$$$ on Christmas gifts.

Re: My Christmas gift baskets are done!
Thanks!Ironically, I spent more $$$ making these things than I wanted to - it always ends up that way, at least for me.
I recycled the jars from the tomato sauce I buy!

Re: My Christmas gift baskets are done!
Teri those are great!! I did some like that a few years ago, I did cookie jars and chile jars and they were such a hit!!My BM's even did them for my shower!!
A tip...make sure you tell people to use the jars. Some people think they are so pretty that they wont open them to make the recipe!!
LOLAgain, they are beautiful, you did a great job on them!!

Wow, Teri! They look great! I'd love to get a gift like that.Just curious...what ingredients did you jar for the potato soup? I've put dry ingredients for cookies in jars as gifts, never soup.

Re: My Christmas gift baskets are done!
LOVE THEM! What a wonderful, thoughtful gift!I always wanted to make the them but wasn't sure of the quantities. Is it the same as a regular cookie recipe? Or is it less so it will fit in the jar?
Would also like to know the cheese potato soup recipe. For ME! LOL

Re: My Christmas gift baskets are done!
Thanks
I've seen these around at craft shows, but I was always a little skeeved to wonder how the ingredients were handled, if they were fresh, etc. For mine I was extra careful and used only name-brand ingredients! LOL
All the ingredients are dry, so they won't go bad for a little while - when you want to make the soup you'd just add water. For the muffins, you'd need to add oil and 1 egg.
Yep, you can use any recipe you'd normally make, and just jar all of the dry ingredients. Anything perishable can be added when you want to start the baking.
I did run into a small problem with the soup ingredients - the jar I used was too small, so I had to fill a second smaller jar with the potato flakes....(I used Hungry Jack mashed potato mix)

Re: My Christmas gift baskets are done!
hmmm - let's see. I tried to buy everything at either Marshalls or TJ Maxx - the baskets were leftover from my wedding, so those were kind of free! (Well, about $7-8 each) The whisks and ladles were only a few dollars each, then the jars were recycled. I had the fabric leftover from a crafts class I took last year, and the ingredients I have no idea on since I bought a ton of other things at the supermarket. The boxes of tea were about $6 each, and the cinnamon sticks were $4 each.
I'd estimate that I spent about $25-$30 on each, at the most.
