my DH wasted 2 OUNCES !!!!

I could KILL him!!! He insisted the baby was hungry (as usual) and I quietly gave him a bottle of 2.5 oz of my milk (what was i thinking, I knew she wasnt' hungry, but am so tired of arguing this point) and he gave it to her and she took .5 ounces and then wouldnt' take anymore!!! I am so MAD!!!

He doesn't know how time consuming and hard it is to suck 2 oz. out of myself!!!!

I know how horrible that feels. Sorry!

Tell him to come on the board so that we can have a talk with him. We have to make a shirt for him that says: 'I WILL NOT WASTE THE LIQUID GOLD!!!!'

I KNEW you ladies would understand!!! What's really funny is I go - 'what do you think, I am MADE of that stuff?!?!?' all mad and raging as I threw the milk down the drain. Then I realized how funny that was. Yes I AM made of that stuff!

Lucky for him he didnt' have the sense to comment on that himself....

Jenny- I put them MM back in the frig to offer one more time. Lots of women on the pumping board do it without any issues.

Next time he insists she is hungry, make up a .5oz bottle and you can always add more if she is still hungry.

I HATE any wasted MM...you work hard for that.

dumb question, but breastmilk can't be refrigerated for a few hrs after it's pumped?

they say that but I have put the bottle back before Jen TONS of times without ANY issues and lots of pumping moms do that. But never do that with defrosted milk, only fresh milk. Molly will also take a bottle out of the frig, only slightly warmed or still cold so I don't really heat it much.

I had to throw out 2oz of MM's today. Defrosted milk is only good for up to 24 hours after it is defrosted and I didn't use it (I used another bottle instead and down the sink it went...not happy about that at all.

Teri- pumped milk is good for 8 days in the frig, 3 months frozen in your frig's freezer area or 6 months in a deep freezer. You can also leave it out for up to 6 hours (not on hot summer days though).

So it's normal for babies not to want to take a bottle after they've already eaten from it?

I was throwing her unused bottles away since she won't eat from it again... That infuriates me too... I just work so hard to make it, i hate to see it get washed down the drain!

Dr Sears also says that you may offer any unused milk at the next feeding. I change the nipple so its sterile, but we've never had an issue either. I think the 'concern' may be that by heating the milk you are destroying the nutrients, but at this point you're nursing so much that a few oz of reheated milk won't really matter!

The rule I do follow is for frozen milk. Once its been thawed, its only good for 24 hours. Going back to work on Wed, I thawed SOOOO much milk & had to throw most of it away!!!!!

Christine- it is going to take us both a few weeks to figure out how much MM's we need while at work. Last week I defrosted 4 4-5oz bags plus I had 4 4-5oz bottles packed for her plus I had another 2 4-5oz bottles in the frig for before daycare, after daycare feedings. I defrosted the MMs in case Scott needed some more before I got home. I had NO idea how much I would need. Well she only eats 2 bottles at daycare which is less than she does at home. This week I defrosted 3 bags---still too much. and I accidently didn't use the defrosted MM's fast enough- my fault. I have to line up the bottles better in the frig.

If you are wasting a lot, just make smaller bottles. Also, you can give the sitter 2-3 bags to keep in her freezer, in case she ever needs it. That is what I did. Now I send only 3 bottles. If one day she was super hungry or if GOD FORBID a bottle spilled they would have more for her.
