I was so sad when I went to see my dress. I waited 9 months and paid a lot of money for the dress and it wasn't what I expected. Don't get me wrong, I still love the design of my dress but it was too short. I asked them to take my height measurement before they ordered it but they said they don't need to. The dress will come in full length and they'll hem it when it comes in because it doesn't have any beads on the bottom and it'll be an easy hem. Well it came in, and it was hemmed. How does it come from the designer like that when they don't have my height measurement? I asked the salon if they can lengthen the dress. She said she can add fabric and I said won't you see a seam? She said the seamstress will take a look at it. when I have my first fitting. The dress was also too big. They have to take in 3' on the chest, 2' on the waist and 6' on the hip. Why do they bother taking measurements if they're not going to order my dress to my size? Sorry, vent over!

sorry to hear this.. when I ordered mine they ordered me a petite I am 5 4', it either comes in regular length or petite. And they measured me with my heels on to ensure the correct length.

I had a very similar situation and it all worked out, yours will work out too. I was sooo excited to see my dress, also waited 9 months for it to come in, and when I went to my first fitting I was so upset. My dress has a bubble hem and needed a measured length (which was an ordeal in itself because I went to order my dress but didn't have shoes yet, so I had to wait until my next trip back to NY) -- also, we ordered up one size just in case my weight fluctuated. well, first fitting comes along and my dress is HUGE on top, and a good 3 inches too short.
After 4 fittings, they were able to add a piece to the inside which brought down the length without being visible, and they took in the sides and it looks perfect. Now I just need to stay the same weight for another 42 days
Once they bring in the sides and fix the length it will start to look like 'your dress'
ETA: they should not charge you for the alterations needed to fix their mistake. my 'measured length' was $100 and i am not being charged for any of the additional alterations made to fix the length.

I know the dress wil be big on me, just not THAT big. They ordered the smallest size for me but I wonder if they did. I don't like the fact that they think the dress is not too short on me and that I should go with a lower heal to solve the problem
they should fix your dress, and not tell you to wear a lower heel. one of my bridesmaids is relatively tall (5'6) and they told her to wear a medium or low heel, or her dress would need to be ordered with extra length. she has medium height shoes and her dress didn't need a hem. any taller and it would have been too short.
thats something they should tell you beforehand and let you decide what you want to do

Thank you, that makes me feel soooo much better. Does your dress have beadings on top or the hem? How do they work around the pattern of the beads?

It's hard to describe what they did so i made a little [phallic] cross-section drawing in paint. basically there was a bubble hem and the outer fabric in black, the inner lining is pink, and they added a strip of fabric (green) which is visible on the inside but not from the outside, luckily there was enough of the outer fabric tucked under where they were able to bring it down. it's not visible at all from the outside. i have no beading on my skirt.
if they couldn't fix it that way, it would have been very visible on my dress, since there is no beading or anything to cover it. i would have had them rush order a new one since it was THAT short. they had to add a 3' strip. dont know how they managed to be that much off
if it's just 1/2' they can put lace or beading over the bottom 3/4' and hide the stitching... but only if you are ok with that
I'm only 5'1 so I will make sure to have them order it LOOONG for me so this doesn't happen. I would probably break down...
I hope that all works out well for you. That's just so wrong of the place. I hope that you don't have to pay for ALL the alterations..
Since you can't say who did this, can you at least say what town..??

What does the receipt disclosure say? Is there anyway of refusing the gown?
