[[ my first POLL ]] wedding costs

Original post by MrsK2008

Seriously, how many of you are staying within your wedding budget?

Did you and your FH have a budget, or are you winging it?

I set a budget but its way out of hand my mom and dad said they would help me out . but I'll believe it when I see it.

we picked a budget and have stuck by it almost to a T. Currently I've been able to fall under the amount that we had set!

winging it

We didn't really set one. I had a good idea as to what things cost so we knew what to expect -- so i guess you can say we are on target.

I think people get caught completely off guard when they have no idea what to expect -- it is important to do your homework.

i never really did a budget..we kind of just went along with it as it came..we knew that by 2 weeks before what we had to have saved up for the big items ( reception and photog/video ) everythign else we spaced out month by month

one month was day of stuff

another was flowers

another was DJ

so that way we never had to save for a year and then spend it all right away..we only budgeted for our reception and photo and the rest we just spaced out so it didnt seem taht bad

please i buy another thing every day for this friggin wedding

Paul and I have done the same thing. Now we are on a TIGHT savings goal until June to recoup money spent.

We would really like to buy a house now.

When I first started planning I set a budget I thought was reasonable.... I was trying to buy a house so I was saving for the down payment and didn't want to spend a fortune on the wedding. IMO having a nice place to live was def more important then a big fancy party. But, now that I have the house I can pretty much spend what ever I want for the wedding.

I think I would be crazy as a loon if I was also trying to buy a house while planning a wedding!

started with a budget and it just got out of hand! So over we might as well have been winging it the entire time....we had to change a ton of things..

We started out with a ridiculous budget, it was laughable. Mostly because FH and I had NO idea how much things REALLY cost.

I would suggest to anyone who has just started planning to have a look around and call at least 5 sifferetn places for each vendor before trying to create a workable budget.

If FH even considered half of this expense,he would have chosen to elope.

:: kicks self ::

Where were you in March of 2006 when I get engaged and just went willy nilly with $$$

we didn't start out w/ a budget but we also didn't expect to get married so quickly. My mom is paying for the wedding and we are paying for all the extras and unneccessary things.

The wedding is turing out to be far more that i would have ever dreamed. We once threw around a figure of 45,000 and now that is a complete joke. We have far exceeded that.

It was so stressful! There were so many days... more like months... when I had just had it with everything! Sooo worth it now though

We never had a budget, I sat down and wrote down what i thought everything would cost vendor by vendor, then while booking some were over, & some were under which gave the leeway for the ones I was over on. FH just asked me the other day what we were up to and I guess he didn't realize what things cost cause he gasped LOL

I am surprised my mom hasn't freaked out on me yet for costs. She just keeps telling me
'don't worry about it, I will make sure you get it if you want it/need it'

I feel so completely fortunate.

this is how I am reasoning it in my mind!

I can't believe I haggled with the invitations lady over the cost of a color change and lined envelopes that essentially saved me 40$ but I keep adding menu items and upgrades to my reception??
