My mother made a request the other night-sorry a lil long
Original post by amstellitelady
she wants me to play her and my dads wedding song and for the 2 of them to dance alone on the floor. i said 'um, why'. i wasn't planning on it and i felt that was a little wrong for her to ask me that. their anniversay was in january so there is no meaning towards it to play.
i'm i right or am i just being a beeyotch?
I'm never the center of attraction. its my day and i want all attention on kevin and me. not to have my parents on the floor to themselves for a couple of minutes. if i do that then i feel i have to do my FIL's song too and i sooooooo don't want to do that.
she got offended when I said no. i didn't say it nasty. i said no and explained why and she still was offended. she feels like cause its my wedding its hers too. i don't think so. she's been getting her way on a few things that i've caved in cause i'm sick of fighting. i've got to put my foot down on some things.

What about having them play the song, having the DJ invite your parents up and then also invite everyone else up too???
I think that's a great solution.

You're right - the request to clear the dance floor is out of control. Asking for the song to be included on your must play list is OK, but clearing the floor???? I don't think so!!
FH wanted to do this for ONE of his groomsmen. Thank goodness said GM's wife said NO, it is their day not ours, I don't want to hear our song.

I have never seen this done at a wedding. I think it is kind of ridiculous. All the guests have to clear the floor to watch your parents dance, talk about a downer at the wedding. You will already have three dances that will have the floor cleared.
Put the song on your must play list, have it dedicated to your parents, and have everyone on the dance floor.

I'm in a total different place as my wedding is in 10 days. I'm in the mode that I'd like to give my parents what they want - within reason - because it's not only my special day, it's theirs as well.
While I can understand you not wanting them to dance alone, I think you could have said that you would absolutely play their song and have the DJ mention/dedicate it to them.
After all, if it weren't for them meeting, getting married, etc. etc. - you would not be here to get married.
I am playing both sets of our parent's wedding songs wtih a dedication and we included both songs on our CD Favors.
I'm also playing the most horrid 'volunteer firefighter' song called 'FireMan Save My Children' and 'Smokey The Bear' because my father wants it. And he deserves to have what he wants at this point.
So...I guess the short of my long post is - play their song and have the DJ dedicate it...and do it for the other side, too.

That is mean....... but I am curious.... what is the song?
I have no idea, is that bad.
I've agreed to so many other things, this is just one thing I don't wanna do. I'm not having to many slow songs cause I don't think its fair to people who come alone.
I will mention to her if I decide to play it, I can just have the song in the play list without making a big announcement and not them alone on the floor. I think what pi$$ed me off the most was not her asking me to play their song, but just having the floor to themselves.
I'll think about it. I did my music selection last night, but the DJ did say if anything comes up within the next couple of weeks to just fax them over the changes or additions i've made.
Thank you ladies for your honest opinions on this matter. I super appreciate the input, as always

As a surprise to my parents, since they did so much for us and our wedding, I asked the band to play their wedding song. At the beginning of one of the sets (after the meal I think), the band leader made an announcement about the song and the dedication. My parents danced to their song as did a lot of our guests. Clearing the dance floor for them is a bit much, but I don't see the harm in playing their wedding song. I think it's a nice way of honoring your parents on your special day.
