my nightmares about my dress COME TRUE!!!! UPDATED!!

Original post by LuckiestGirl

Ok so after waiting over a year for my dress I started having nightmares that I wouldnt fit in it. Well lastnight was my fitting, and I dont have any pictures and Im so depressed now. MY DRESS DIDN'T FIT. It was to small. I worked so hard and lost weight so I would look beautiful for my FH and for what. I am this fat cow who is to big for a dress i paid 2000 for. Ive been crying ever since I got home last night. Snapping at everyone cause I feel so stupid to think that I could ever look pretty. So here is what the bridal store said. First the women gets the dress on me buttons the top and then tries to zipper me. Then she asks did you gain weight. I was petrified cause i lost 10lbs. So my cousin was like she lost weight so then the women remesurred me and was like well u lost weight but the dress is 3 inches to small W T F how can that be. 3 inches what if i didnt lose weight, so the dress was ordered to small im so depressed she said she will try to let it out but the bead work will have a gap she said she will fill it in but it wont be exactly the same. She said no one will notice but I still want to know how the dress was ordered or made to small for me when they took the messurments.

Has anyone else had to get their dress let out and how did it look. Could you tell. . . . I just want to call the whole wedding off im so fed up with everything going wrong. Oh and they messed up on my veil and slip too. ARGGGG I just want to hide under a rock and cry.

Thanks for listening well reading!

dont let this discourage you!!! Things can be done. You might have lost weight but not inches. Like, Ive been working out LIKE CRAZY and havent lost too much weight but I slimmed down. It all depends on your body type.

Im thinking they ordered the wrong size, who KNOWS... but they are professional seamtresses so they can work with it.

JUST DONT LET IT BREAK YOU.

youre still going to look gorgeous. And you still have time to work with it.

I just spoke to my mother cause me and the FH had a huge fight about me being upset over my dress. He feels it is only a dress and i kept saying but its my dress and it my main part to the wedding. . . he didnt feel that way lol. . .so i called my mom and she said she would be upset too if it was her

can you make the back into a corset back?

That's the best idea on the board so far.

Totally agree.

First things first - this is NOT a sign - this is a mistake on someone's part and has nothing to do with how wonderful your wedding and marriage will be!

Second - the dress is not the right size. Plain and simple. Either they measured wrong and ordered you the wrong size (please check the tags on the dress to make sure it says 16) OR Jasmine cut the dress to the wrong size even though the tag says the right size.

I would have them measure the dress and see if the measurements match the measurements on paper for a size 16. They should definitely reimburse you for this huge error and you should NOT have to pay for the needed alterations.

Now, if you can't or don't want to convert the dress to a corset back, let them take it out and add the beading. It WILL work out. Think about it, alterations are needed on like 99% of dresses. So instead of taking it in in some areas, they have to take it out - no biggie and they really do this for a living so I'm sure she'll do an awesome job. Lillette's has a good reputation, so I think it will be fine. The beading will look great. I know it's hard to just feel better about it because you have to wait to see the alterations done, but try to think a bit positive - and you have all of us here to support you!

I completley agree... the main thing here is that it will be ok. I know how you feel and honestly you need to see that you are a beautiful girl. You are not fat and even if you were a big girl SO WHAT? Being thin is not everything in the world. And when it comes to weddings the most important thing is you feel beautiful no matter what shape or size you are. I am sure that the seamstress will accomplish making you feel this way when they fix the dress.
You have to realize this is mistake. No one will take credit for it no matter what place you go to, it's kind of like their thing(imo anyway). But don't let it get you down. There will be a great solution to it.
We (all of us girls) have our days and are most critical of ourselves. Wedding gowns and BM gowns run in crazy sizes that don't make sense. Don't live your life by the #'s. Live by how you feel inside. I know that's lame... but think about it

I wanted to thank all you wonderful girls who took time to show me support. I hope all of you who havent gotten your dresses that Nothing like this happens to you. I wish this on no bride. And even though I keep hearing that it will be ok that they do this for a living I cant help to think that is the end of the world. But thank you to all of you.

DO NOT BE UPSET. My dress was let out 2 inches. Check out the pics of the fittings in my album. I stupidly kept losing weight and by the time the wedding came, the top was a bit too loose. It will be fine once they let it out--remember, that is why they build in the extra fabric!

That is because I wouldn't post full length pics...hold on, here is one from the first fitting...see around the midsection...you can see my bellybutton!!! And it all bunched up because it was not fitted properly...I would never post this pic unless someone NEEDED to see it!

Re: my nightmares about my dress COME TRUE!!!!

Ok BREATHE!!!! You have 2 months. And try not to take this out on FH. He doesn't get it. He never will. I wound up with a dress not fitting me before my wedding & FH & I brawled over me buying a 2nd gown. They do not understand the importance of a wedding gown. But WE DO!

NOW - First of all, you tell Lilettes that the alterations are NOT going to done by Sept 10, they are to be done by AUGUST 10th. It does not take 6 weeks to alter a dress. Period. I don't CARE how busy they are, they are to fix this ASAP. End of story.

Secondly, the seamstress is probably going to be able to pull this off. I mean, this is what these ladies do and it's not uncommon. ALL of my bridesmaids dresses came in too small from the manufacturer. EVERY ONE. And the seamstress let them all out a few inches. Everyone looked great. So it can be done.

Third, WORST CASE SCENARIO, you can go where I went 2 weeks before my wedding & buy a new dress off the rack. VOWS Bridal Outlet (www.bridepower.com) They might even have your dress there.

Chin up!!!

Re: my nightmares about my dress COME TRUE!!!!

There's no way you're a 16. I know wedding dresses usually run a size or two small but that's crazy! There has to be a mistake.
So sorry this is happening. I'm sure it's even worse that everyone expects you to be responsible for their mistakes, that keeps happening to me to.
Don't worry, you still have time. My alterations were all messed up & just this week I got it fixed. I stil need a bustle so I have to go somewhere for that. But there is time & it will work out k for you.
Keep us posted

Re: my nightmares about my dress COME TRUE!!!!

Im so sorry that this happened to you-you will look beautiful on your wedding day regardless of how much weight you lose or dont lose.

On a different note: my dress was ordered to my exact measurements and was 2.5 inches too small thru-out the whole zipper. It had to be taken out 2 inches. So do not worry about the dress...if the seamstress thinks she can take it out then there has to be enough material underneath to do so-which mean there SHOULD be beading on that material also that matches the rest of the dress.

Dont worry until she takes it out. I never thought I would have a problem with my dress not fitting (same size, etc my whole life) and when it came in and didnt budge my dress became a nightmare to me.

Plenty of for you-it will work out-promise!
