My Wedding dress Dilema (with PIC!)

Original post by May05Bride

Okay...
So I need your help!

I bought this dress in Israel. The first time I am bringing myself to posting it. It is a 2 piece, the top made out of crystal - completely. So, the question.. do you think its too see-through below the chest? My FI and family are conservative, I want them to like the dress.. do you think its too Sexy???

Please be VERY honest!!!

I am considering putting solid WHITE material on on the bottice, so its not see through. What do you think? People say not to do it because it will ruin the look.

I love the dress!!! I love beading and this by far has to be the nicest top I've seen!!! As for your question I would put a liner in it. Did you plan to wear a corset underneath? With the lining and a corset, you should be fine. Thanks for sharing the pic! I cant wait to see the final result!!

Yes, I would put something underneath!

I would probably have a lining sewed in and I think the dress is gorgeous!

You said the answer in your our words...If you want you F and his family like the dress show to them, if they find this look a little bit revealing and etc, they should tell you. But this is your day and if you want to show off beaty of the dress go with sheer/cream lining it will be more natural look. Good luck it is not easy!!!!!!

I definitely think that your dress is BEAUTIFUL! I personally, would put a liner in it, but I'd probably do the picture thing, as well as ask a trusted seamstress to make sure its the way I want it to look. It sounds like you have a bunch of ideas from the other ladies, so would you please let us know what you ultimately do? And PLEASE post a picture of the end result! Thanks!

I think the dress is STUNNING!!! A white lining would bring out the crystals, IMO. Absolutely beautiful choice girl!!!

It is hard to tell from the pic.. but it does look like you can see your midriff. so, I agree with the lining. As far as color- I think what you should do is find a reputable seasmstress and see what they think. They will be able to recommend what would be best, without taking away from the dress.

Ditto....you should check out Madame Paulett's in NYC...they do a lot of 'couture' wedding dress fittings and would be able to help you with the lining and which color looks best.

Let me just say that is SOME DRESS! And by me saying that I mean it is beautiful, it looks really good on you, chest and all!

It's very pretty, but maybe you can have a liner sewn into it. With certain camera flashes, it may become too sheer and look like lingerie. Try taking pictures of it on in different lighting with the flash and see what happens.

The photographers light might have a dramatic effect on it. Your probably better off having it lined.
those lighte are so bright.

Its absolutely gorgeous though.

I definitely don't think it fits right.

I completely disagree. I think without the cups its going to look spectacular. I think a flesh tone bustier will cover you up a little more without sacrificing the look of the dress.

Thank you guys for your honest opinions!
I now know what to do, I will line it with thick white fabrick. The nude wouldn't do, only because the bra area is sown in white, already, so lining with nude, would achieve the effect.

As you mentioned I should go with my first instinct. And, my first instinct was to line it. In fact, I asked them to do it there, and they did, but they lined it with very thin white, that is why you can't see it and it still seems sheer.
So, I will just line it with another, much heavier material. I think it will loose 'the look' but gain another - a much more confident bride!

Thank you for your honest opinions, I will post the final pic of the dress, altered and el.

I think that dress is absolutely gorgeous and I think you look amazing it in, cleavage and all. I do not think that you are showing too much cleavage. You look far from ho-ish

Sorry I forgot to answer about the lining. I think it looks nice but if you would feel better with a lining go for it.

dress is beautiful, I would get liner so you feel better. If I had that cleavage my DH would have fallen in love with me all over again when I walked down the isle. your body is great, all of it

I think it is way too busty. But a beautiful beautiful dress and u are wearin it. Just get a corset to fit the dress exactly and u are good to go

I don't think your dress is see through. It's a very nice, sexy dress. But for someone who has a conservative family, it might be too much to handle.

I really like the dress. Its different - and its got 'zazz' - makes me want to open my dress search up internationally.

that would make for an interesting thread I think - but maybe that is just me.

Well, coming from a conservative gal who picked an unusual dress too ... I have to say your dress is stunning. If I had your boobs, I'd wear it ... just as it is, cups and all. (I was picking mine up the whole night the night of my wedding :) ... Speaking of, if you are thinking of taking the cups out, make sure it out will not alter the structure so that you are having to play with the dress night of even with your gorgeous shape.)

As for the lining issue ... who was there with you when you bought your dress? What did they say? If your family is conservative, what do they say? I'd rely on family for this one. I can't tell based on the picture exactly how see through it is ... but if it's a night time affair, once the cocktail hour is over many brides kick off their shoes and have a blast and that dress spells party. Another option might be to have a shawl made out of a similar material as the skirt for the ceremony, which would be beautiful walking down the aisle.

Go with your gut ... and don't worry what people will say.

My family, father and brother, both saw the dress and said it was beautiful. My brother said that it looks like the designer studied me, and created the dress to perfectly match my personality.. sparkly and al.
But than again, my family is not conservative at all.. which is why I am worried. There is a white material under the dress already, but I guess its too thin. I think I'll feel better, for my FI's sake, to put another white material underneath. It'll alter the look a bit, but, should still sparke like it is. Without the pads, on the boobs, it looks better. My chest is a bit large for my petit size I guess, but I guess I can't change that; maybe I by not making the corsett too tight would work. I really hope it'll turn out well. I will go to the seamstress, and hopefully will feel better afterwords. I'll definately keep you updated!
