Need a few prayers ..(UPDATED ON PAGE 2)

.. for my future father-in-law. He's not doing well. Presently in CCU, after being rushed to the hospital on Sunday night with severe breathing problems. His lungs had filled with fluid, and wouldn't have made it if my future MIL hadn't called 911 and gotten him to the hospital in time.

'Dad' has had heart problems since he was a young man in his 30s, he's had multiple heart attacks and congestive heart failure. They had only given him a few years to live back then - that was over 10 years ago! So he's a fighter! But he's only 56 and it just breaks my heart to see him and FH suffer so.

They've now determined that his mitral valve is leaking and that caused the fluid build-up. But his heart is so damaged & he's so weak that the doctors won't operate, which is the only way to 'treat' this. His condition is futher complicated with diabetes.

FH is just a basket case; his Dad is his best friend. I can honestly say that I love him like a father -- he is the best FIL I could have asked for. He's a special person and always makes me feel like his 'daughter.'

I just feel SO helpless. I had to get this off my chest, I'm sitting here at work just filled with anxiety everytime the phone rings.

WOW im sitting here in tears. I have the same relationship with my parents. I know how you feel right now and how your fh must feel. My dad had a heart attack in 1997 and had to have a triple bypass. He is doing well now thank god. I don't know what I would of done if I lost him.

I will pray for your future father in law and for you FH.

What hospital is he in right now? I hope he is at St Francis....That is the best hospital for someone with heart disease.

Thanks Scott .. I appreciate your kind words more than you know. You have a similar relationship with your parents as FH and I do. My parents are my best friend too. My Dad had quadruple-bypass in 1998 so I know FFIL's situation well. My dad is 71 and doing well of late. FH's Dad just had severe problems for years on end, every doctor that sees his case history says its a miracle he's lived so long.

I am blessed by not only having wonderful parents of my own, but getting to know and love my FIL's. Not everyone is so fortunate to have both great parents AND great in-laws, so I treasure that!

He's in North Shore right now. I don't know what's next, they say there's nothing more they can do for him. FH cannot accept that right now, I cannot say I blame him

My grandfather also has a history of heart problems and he has a great doc at NY Hospital of Queens. His name is Dr. Saraya. My grandfather has been going to him for years and he is awesome. Please let me know if you need the # and I'll get it for you.

Felicia....Can you look into maybe transferring him to St Francis? If any hospital can help him, that is the one that will.

My dad is 76 now, but he acts and looks like he is much younger. Its sad to hear that you FFIL has to go through such pain and problems, especially now that he is still very young.

Marcela, you are just a sweetheart. I could just cry.. Your words mean the WORLD to me.

I know what you've been going thru with your grandfather and hope he is progressing along too! All the more I appreciate your support for my FFIL. FH's family are positive are very spiritual people, they are keeping the faith. I haven't spoken to my FMIL today yet to get an update (they were doing more tests today) but I'll let her know about the doctor you recommended. It is very kind of you to help!
