Need makeup advice - please help!

Need makeup advice - please help!

Hi ladies!

I normally wear absolutely no makeup at all and really need some advice. When I came home from my trial, my FH said that it looked like I had way too much makeup on and that he didn't like it.

He likes the more natural makeup look, but my makeup artist told me that by making me look more natural, I will look washed out in pictures and as a bride, I should have something a little more glamorous than an everyday look, especially for my gown. So now I'm totally confused.

What are you ladies doing? Natural, glam, or somewhere in between? Does anyone know how these looks will come out in pictures?

I'll attach a picture of my gown and tiara too - do you think that it requires something more than a natural look?

Thank you So much for your help!!

(P.S. I'm at 99 days today - double digits!!! Woo-hoo!!! )

Same thing here. After my first trial w/JN, DH was like 'It's nice but you know I don't like a lot of makeup'. The same man who said when I came home from my hair trial 'It's kinda fancy' or something to that effect.

I had a second trial that was more natural but it was still a lot of makeup for me (I wear eyeliner and lipstick when I remember - neither on weekends unless I am going somewhere).

I loved my makeup on my wedding day although when I see the video it looks like a lot (when it was first done I mean), but not in the pictures.

I would try a different make up person then - I am the same and don't wear lots of make up. At my first trial - they used silver & dark plum eyeshadow and black eyeliner. I dont have the coloring for black eyeline and it looked awful.

I went to the Bobbi Brown counter at Bloomies and they did my makeup using softer colors (pewter instead of silver, grey instead of black, etc) colors and it look so much more natural - you saw my features not makeup.

I had on a TON of makeup on the wedding day, but in the pictures it looks great. DH said that up close it was too much, but again, in the pictures it looked great. See? It doesn't look like that much here:

Wow, that dress and tiara are so beautiful! Very un-fussy but feminine.

I definitely wanted a natural look for my makeup, but my makeup person disagreed. I was horrified at my trial at first - it seemed like sooooo much makeup. I was almost embarassed to go out in public afterward! But it looks great in pictures.

For the wedding day I am going to compromise by having fairly elaborate (for me) eye makeup but a light lipstick.

How about going for a natural glow look like Jessica Simpson did on her wedding day?

I know how you feel - when I came home from my trial my then fi was like
OMG! You look like a clown, here I thought I looked all glam, I don't wear make-up either.
He was telling me how he really wanted me to look like myself not like 'who the heck is that walking down the aisle?'
The bottom line is - he was right - when I got back the photos of what I looked like, I hated it. I ended up having my sister do my makeup and I looked totally natural -
So if you can, experiment, thats what I did, buy some makeup and play with it!
Definetly go for another trial with someone else. Tell them you want a more natural look.

I went for a professional expensive trial and it was too heavy for me.

Intead I went with my nieghborhood MK lady and she did me, my mom and my girl for free!

I'm was in the same boat as you because I don't wear ANY makeup...just lip gloss!

I went for a Makeup trial at a salon and HATED IT!!! I had SO much makeup on it was terrible. I went to Macy's last night for a trial with Clinique and I LOVED IT. I told her to do suttle, natural looking and she did just that and I love it! Try a counter at Macy's they're so helpful. FM if you want details.

i had the same experience! at the trial from hell they did me in all plums and heavy black eyeliner. i looked ridiculous.
try someone else bc you & FH should love how you look. I'm using Clarin Cohen (she works at Bobbi Brown in Bloomies at Walt Whitman). At the trial (which is free), she did enough makeup that i think it will look good in pics but natural colors.

I had the same issue... why is it that us non-makeup users feel so fake when all that crap is caked on?

My advice it try to go neutral. It's a given that you have to wear makeup, due to the pictures, but ask the makeup artist to play it down. That's what I plan to do. Here's gonna be my look (natural, but playing up my eyes):

So would you all recommend just going to a department store make-up counter for ideas(esp. if you're looking not to spend mega bucks)? it sounds like a couple of you were horrified by the professional you almost hired, but pleased with the make-up counter person...

The same thing happened to me. When I was in my regular salon getting my highlights done two weeks before the wedding, I was telling of my horrific experience at my make-up trial. They told me that they had a make-up person who could show me how to put on my own makeup (I live in VA where my regular salon is - wedding was on LI). It was great! She showed me exactly what to do, even drew up a 'cheat sheet' for me. I ended up doing my own make-up and I felt so much better - more natural but yet enough so I didn't look too washed out. Good luck!

Can we have that cheat sheet, and some tips?

HA! I wish I could give it to all of you - but I no longer have it (trashed it after the wedding). My only tip is you need to feel comfortable in whatever make-up you wear. Remember that people will see you live - not just in pictures! If you don't like how others do your makeup, find someone (either at a salon or make-up counter) to show you how to do it yourself.

I don't mind eye or lip makeup... but my main issue is foundation... I really can't stand it. However, apparently that's important for pics... any tips about less (or almost sheer) foundation that will help with the photography, but not look like you need to chisel to remove?

Re: Need makeup advice - please help!

I only used a powder foundation - as was recommended in my 'training.' I didn't want to wear heavy foundation b/c I never wear it and didn't want that look. However, if you are concerned about it, why don't you go to some make-up counters at the mall and try samples of foundations to see if there are any that you like. Sorry I can't be more help!

It's ok... you've been helpful enough! I'll go mall searching. ;)

Same here...I never wear makeup and when I came out of my first trial I was embarrassed to go the bank. So I had another trial from a mary kay girl that came to my house and she was great. Everything was neutral colors and looked very natural. FI, my mom, and my sis loved it.

I wear Clinique foundation everyday, but nothing else (sometimes a little lipliner and lipstick - but usually not) I wear eye shadow and mascara when I go out on the weekends. I don't want heavy makeup either. I have some pictures that I will try to find and scan for you to give you an idea of lighter m/u I've seen.
