Need to out do last family wedding! Need a hall!

Original post by LuckyMe

Weddings in our families always leave someone to make comments and be judgemental(my future mother-in-law) We are still looking for the perfect hall without having to go into hock! Planning a May 2006 wedding. Please give us any suggestions you might have we already looked at a few and were not impressed at all for the money they were asking. Sans Souci--gorgeous view but very old in a run down way. Woodbury country club:turned off when we pulled in not very appealing, Swan Club: drove by and didn't care for the surroundings. As you can see Im real picky but willing to take suggestions. Went to wedding at Floral Terrace and although I didn't care for it being right on the street the wedding was unbelievable! Went to a wedding at Fox Hollow and although the outside was beautiful the room the reception was in was horrible, the food was horrible.

The Cresent gave me a price of around $145 for a Saturday Evening in May of 2006, which is over my budget but after just trying to get in to see the place for a week I gave up. Is the milleridge more reasonable? Sorry if I seem nosey.

I am getting married at the Bourne. One wedding at a time, on the water, inside and outside coctail hour, the mansion is yours for the day.

halls to check out

Not sure about your taste or budget. We have not booked but so far have the following quotes (some for 2005 & 2006).

Milleridge Cottage $54 pp Sunday afternoon Jan - Feb 2006 150 minimum guarantee. Very pretty for May. One wedding at a time and a beautiful atrium for the ceremony (or outside if the weather is nice). They include centerpieces and have a pretty big basic menu (2 star). They offer a bigger menu too - 3 star. I loved this place (and the price) but FI did not think it was modern enough after seeing Fox Hollow. They are changing the carpet and wall paper at Milleridge Cottage though. Not sure when. they also have nice outdoor spaces for pics. Plus, it's very easy to find - which FI liked. LOL

Fox Hollow $51 pp for Jan - Feb 2006 Sun afternoon & 160 minimum guarantee for Garden Terrace, 9/4/05 $75 pp for Sunday afternoon. I do not liked the Briar Fox room (for cocktail hour) although I did attend a reception in that room in 2002 which was very nice. The Garden Terrace room is very pertty - Tiffany glass dome over the bride & groom. Great outdoor pics. Again, easy to find for out of town guests.

Floral Terrace $60 pp Feb 2006 125 minimum guarantee, $70 pp for September - November 2005. All Sat/Sun afternoon pricing. We did not like that it's right on the street. The do have valet parking - underground too. One wedding at a time but no sun set pics.

Swan Club 125 minimum for Garden Room & 165 minimum for Camelot Room$ $55 pp for Sat/Sun afternoon in November - $75 pp Sat night November, $55 Sunday night; Jan - Feb $50pp for Sat/Sun aft; $70 pp Sat night & $50 Sun night; Sept/October $65 pp Sat afternoon ; $90 pp at night; $60 pp Sun aft & $65 at night. Up to 3 weddings at a time and VERY chaotic when we visited. A watier had on black jeans on the day we visited which upset FI. I suppose it was so busy that they could not send that employee home to change but it did give FI a bad impression of the place after he was already annoyed by the chaos of having 3 wedding parties leaving around the same time as other were coming in.

Sandcastle $80 pp 2/2006 Sunday afternoon, 140 minimum. Did not like the decor - knights and armor. The ballroom is very pretty though but it is on a main road and we heard street traffic on the day we visited.

Chateua Briand Sept 2005; Sunday afternoon $72pp; Jan - Feb $60 pp Sat/Sun afternoon
125 minimum for smaller room; 175 for larger room (not Da Vinci). Very art deco which we didn't like....and they were to change the decor the week after we visited. Still art deco though and upgrading something (bathrooms?).

Jericho Terrace Sept/Oct 2005 $70 pp Sat/Sun afternoons; Nov $65 pp also afternoons; Jan - Feb 2006 $55 pp afternoons; 150 gurantee for Dome room; 125 for smaller room. You worked there so you know all about this one. Pretty outdoor pic areas but not ceremony or cocktail.

Russos - 10/10/05 Monday - $77 pp (125 minimum I think?). FI thought the elevator entrance was too 'hollywood'. On a main road.

Coral House - September 2005 Sunday afternoon $58 (I think) with like 120 minimum. They have a lot of different rooms to choose from if you have a smaller or larger party. Very busy place - like 3 weddings at once. Pretty lakeside setting and possible outdoor ceremony (weather permitting).

Brentwood Country Club - one wedding at a time - package deal $8995 - $11495 (?) which includes EVERYTHING (invites, limos, DJ, photo, video, flowers & reception for 100 people). Add tax and 15& service charge. Additional guests are $55 each. House vendors are included in this package but if you choose not to use them, BCC gives credit i.e. $1,000 for photo if you do not use the house photographer.

Those are the places we have seen so far - but we have not booked and plan to check more places that don't stretchour $15K budget too far.

Hope this helps

If you're picky, and you want to be on LI at a one-wedding place, you should look at the Woodlands, Flowerfield, and Land's End. You can also look at the Vanderbilt Mansion, V'bilt Planetarium, Nassau County Museum of Art, and Oheka Castle. Some of these will be on the high end of the scale, so it will depend greatly on your budget and your personal tastes. Also, like others have said, there will always be people who pick things apart (some seem born to do just that), so don't worry about pleasing everyone; just try to do things that will be enjoyable for most. Good luck!

ETA: The Carltun (in Eisenhower Park) is another one that lots of people love; not sure if they do multiple simultaneous weddings.

Sure. I don't have my notes but that is what I could recall and piece together from my prior posts about hall visits.

There are TONS of halls on the water and with outdoor cocktail hour but there are NOT a lot with one wedding at a time.

i'm partial to my place but the crescent was very nice too..i just got spooked from them because i was afraid it would rain and then the ceremony would have been in either the ch room or the reception room..i wanted a separate room for my ceremony..the ch is out on the beach at crescent which would be beautiful and although i haven't seen it since the renovations it looked like it was going to be beautiful..a friend is getting married at carltun on the park and she's happy with her choice also..good luck

i'm sorry i missed all the stuff about the crescent..if you're not having a good experience even trying to get in there than forget that..

I Highly Recommend Giorgio's.

I LOVED everything about it. They are 1 wedding at a time.

Here is the link to my review with pictures.

I'm getting married there next week and I love the place as much as I ever did, but the staff isn't the absolute nicest I've seen around. They've been very accomodating and I haven't had any issues, but some people there could be a tad nicer. I have a feeling they tried to disect your wedding because you have either more guests than they can hold, or you have less than their minimum, but that's certainly no excuse.

Not sure what your budget is, but our second choice was Oheka castle, but a bit too far out from where everyone is coming from

Oooh also was a close second and first was Carylye on the Green, have been there for a wedding, nothing but phenomenal!!!

I just wanted to bring up the fact that there are going to be some people that hate place X and some that love place X. YOU and your FH should look at everything.

I just wanted to add that 'blasting' any hall, etc. can be hurtful to those getting married there.

Thank you for that Jennifer. Very true. There are tactful ways to say that a particular reception site doesn't suit your needs.

Anyway, that said, I recommend looking into Oheka, the Carltun, Carlyle, and Flowerfield and maybe the Garden City Hotel... if you are looking to 'top' someone. And even still, they've all 'been done'. Your wedding will be YOUR wedding regardless of what hall you have it in so why don't you focus on what YOU and your FH want rather than what will impress other people... I think you'll be a happier bride for it in the end.

As far as the one wedding thing, I would say look into the Riviera in Massapequa, Stewart Manor Country Club, Atlantis Marine World in Riverhead (for something unique, great for a beach theme too), and I second the Crescent.
