I did J.Crew as well. Mine, however, was only 200 after a 15% discount. It was still a lot in my opinion but they were the ones that picked it out so I did not feel as guilty. That being said, I was in a wedding once where the bride asked us to spend 400. We all agreed as this is what she wanted. The dress, while lovely, could never be worn again. Because of that, we were not able to do what we wanted for her at her shower or for her bachelorette. We werent bitter or angry, we just couldn't afford it. We had to cut costs and it was a lot less of an enjoyable experience. Just take a minute to think about how much 400 is to some people. And think about it for yourself as well. Is giving them each 100 towards it really in your budget? After planning my wedding for well over a year I have come to realize, nobody really cares as much as you do. In the end, this dress is going to look just as old and dated as everyone elses in ten years. It really doesnt matter and you want to try to keep your bridesmaids happy. They are the ones that are going to go out of their way for you for all of the fun things to come. Just my personal opinion.

This! You don't want them to spend a lot of money on this and then you miss out on other things because they don't have the money but if it is a dress you really love and want them to wear just keep an eye open for discounts

Need to vent! BM and $$$!

I completely understand where most of you are coming from. Believe me, I do.
I think the fact that 6 of my BMs were totally okay with it and just my 1 cousin wasn't was really what bothered me.
She seems to forget how much money we all spent on her day but has a lot to say about everyone elses.

I'll get over it and find an alternative.

I just needed to vent.

Thanks.

I looked at the dresses online and you can definitely find similar dresses at bridal stores so look around.

Need to vent! BM and $$$!

I agree with the other girls – that is a lot for a dress. However I understand your dilemma since I LOVE the J. Crew dresses too.

This idea isn’t for everyone, but I just chose my BM dresses from Little Borrowed Dress. They give you the option to rent for buy and some of their styles are somewhat similar to J. Crew. I also saw great bridesmaid dresses by Ann Taylor that are little less expensive.

If you do decide to go for J. Crew, offering to pay for hair and makeup would be a nice compromise.

Need to vent! BM and $$$!

I would bring a picture of the one you really like when you go looking at other places. I'm sure you will be able to find something that you love that is similar to the original one for a better price! Stay positive you'll find something!

Re: Need to vent! BM and $$$!

FWIW, I've been a JCrew BM and all my BMs are wearing the Arabelle short dress...they are so far from true to size, myself and all my BM's needed alterations..my sister who is a street size 4 needed a JCrew size 8, and the rest of my girls had to size up at least 2 sizes. I would freak if I had to pay that for a BM dress, that's just not fair. JCrew always has sales though, so I would pick a color and tell them to pick any dress from the sale section in that color. My BM dresses all came to literally $45 each....they were $250 down to $99, then 40% off, and I opened a JCrew card. Also-whatever you order, make sure you order LOTS of extra material. I ordered 3 yards ($25 a yard) for alterations, they will need it!
