They didnt. They did even ask if we needed help with anything, never mind offer to pay. Pay?? HA HA surely you jest!!

I couldnt believe it! Then MIL shows up at the wedding with an attitude pushing my guests out of the way to get to the bar first.

My MIL gave me a shower and did the rehearsal dinner.
They also gave us a very generous wedding gift which was so helpful because we paid for everything else ourselves.

My parents are helping us out so much. We are going to pick up the rest. FH's parents are not giving us anything. We are lucky if we get a rehearsal dinner! I try not to think about it though!

FIL's are paying for the rehearsal dinner...Other than that, my parents are paying for the reception hall, my dress and accessories...FH and I are paying for everything else.

Yeah okay not only havent they offered to help, they dont even discuss it and if you did they walk out of the room. It's been much easier since we dont talk to them anymore On the other hand I didnt expect my mother to be helpful but she came around and not only is she interested but emails me ideas or calls when there is something on tv about weddings and since we decided to elope first this June she has offered to pay for the kids to fly down to stay with her while we're gone.

we are incredibly lucky...our parents split the cost (directly down the middle) for the wedding. Vin and I are responsible for the limos, invites, favors, attendants gifts and of course honeymoon. They also gave us very very generous gift for our engagment....I feel blessed, I adore them.

I have the same problem! FIL's are not helping with anything and have zero interest in their first born son's upcoming wedding! The few times I've tried to include my FMIL, all I ever get is 'Oh, that's nice.' Needless to say, I've stopped trying! Can you tell how worked up I get over this?!

I'm very lucky, my FIL's offered to pay for our band and limos....and they're very interested in all the planning.

Sorry you're dealing with this....

Re: How many of you future in laws are helping out with the wedding?

Having had both of my parents ill, (mom with a heart condition having triple bypass surgery in Jan, dad in hospital since October) my mother felt it necessary to put a certain dollar amount of my parent's estate in trust for my wedding. It was a very generous amount, but it is the same amount she allotted for my sisters wedding 15 years ago.

Times have changed and prices go up. FH's guest list and FIL's guest list far exceed that of my family which is fine. I don't have to have MORE guests because my family is paying. BUT since we are on a budget, I did tell him he and his family were going to have to shave down the list somewhat. I know he understood, I don't think his mother will.

His family is not in the same financial situation as mine is and even then, my parents are elderly with somewhat of a limited income. He also has two young sisters who will have weddings in the near future. Keeping that in mind, FMIL asked what is customary for a groom's family to contribute. Typically, they pay for alcohol and the rehearsal dinner. We are Jewish. We don't DO rehearsal dinners because we don't do rehearsals the night before. A quick run-through is done right before the ceremony before the guests arrive.

I am glad FMIL asked the question, because at least I know she is classy enough to know that FIL's SHOULD contribute something. Paying for alcohol, though acceptable and generous, will be a drop in the bucket considering the wedding will probably exceed 200 people at a location that will be acceptable to both sides. Both of our mothers are LI snobs (no way around it -sorry if that offended anyone here). If they want things a certain way, there is always a price tag. I told FH that his family can offer a lump sum towards the catering or even to offer to pay for another vendor (ie. band, flowers).

Anyone have Zanax?

Re: How many of you future in laws are helping out with the wedding?

My ILs did not help us with anything but the RD. Because they did not help or were interested in their sons wedding, DH and I were fighting all the time. I am so glad that I do not have to deal with that anymore.
