New Bride-A GAZILLION questions! lol

Hey guys! I'm new to the site and so happy to be here. I must admit I peeked in several times before becoming a member. I have so many questions but I will start slow.

First two:
My FH and I never even heard of taking engagement photos until now. Why are they necessary? (sorry if I sound like such newbie!)

and...

Save the dates, are they important? my FMIL (is that even an acronym you guys use? lol it's future mother in law. lol ) does not want us to send them because she says everyone she knows who has sent them out ended up not going thru with the weddings. lol it sounds silly but shes killing us here. what should I do?

U Dont have to take Epics... Some ppl do them bc they want to. It is nice. I think its a nice way to celebrate ur Engagement. FH and I never heard of that either, Once we got here on LIW we decided to do them bc they are so nice and it was a way to celebrate our Engagement together!!

U dont need to send STD... BUt maybe its nice to send out a 'reminder' just to let ppl know when Ur wedding is... U want ppl to get ready for ur wedding. Do what u want to do chica. I donrt mean to b rude but This is UR wedding not ur moms... I am doing many things my mom doesnt thing I should do....

You are going to hear about A LOT of stuff that you probably would never have even thought of on this site. It is amazing! Engagement picture sessions are included in some photography packages. You get to choose where you want to go and have a quick session to get pictures. Some girls use them for their save the dates. You don't NEED to do an 'E pic' session, but they are fun.

Same goes with Save the Dates. Not everyone does them, but most of us on here are. They usually get mailed out a year or so before the wedding. Oh and we do use FMIL!

We are doing e-pic since they are included in our photo package. We're going to use the pics for our STD's. Some people use them for their table numbers or frame to use as a guest sign in board.

Sending STD's is up to you. We are since we have a lot of OOT guest. It's good to send them if your getting married on a holiday weekend or if you have a lot of OOT guest. Of course, if you just want to send them go for it.

Don't forget its your wedding. The sooner you embrace that, the easier it will be. Hear other opinions, consider them and then do what you think is best. Sometimes, you will give in to please others but stand your ground on whats important to you.

E-Pics are not necessary at all and neither are the Save The Dates. It's a nice added addition (like you could use the e-pics in areas of the wedding like Table Numbers, Guest Book, or just framed around the RH) but totally not necessary to do.

also some brides use their EPics as 'decor' at their wedding

some use for table numbers
some make a sign in board out of a big pic

and some use the EPics for their STD

I have no idea if I will use mine for any of the above...but I am doing EPics just for fun!

STDs are totally up to you...its a way to announce your wedding...and tell ppl in advance about your wedding date so they can 'save the date' on their calendar!

Engagement pics are not necessary but a nice keepsake from this time in your lives. Most photogs offer it w/ your wedding day package - so when you start meeting w/ photogs its always good to ask about it. Also if you have friends who like to take pics you can always ask them. Personally it was a good experience for FH and i to get used to being in front of the camera.

As for the save the dates - they are not needed but could be helpful. The idea your FMIL is kind of strange but its really your call. We sent them out b/c we are getting married on a holiday weekend. Also they are good to send out if you have a lot of out of town guests so they can plan their travel early.

Good luck and ask as many questions as you want - also take advantage of the search option b/c that could help you out a lot too.

Epics - I'm probably not doing them unless my future photographer throws them in.

Save the dates - I'm doing them for 3 reasons -
1. To let people know, so they have no excuse :)
2. To share our wedding website so everyone knows whats going on.
3. To introduce the theme for my wedding so everyone can see how it follows through to the big day.

Congrats and Welcome . I never heard about epics, wedding websites, slipper baskets, bathroom baskets, etc. until I joined this site!! That is why I love it! These ladies have so many ideas and help me so much to get creative with this process. I think the engagement photos are a great way to get to know your photographer, how they will shoot you and FH (future husband), and if you actually like their photos. It is also included in many wedding packages!

On your second question, are my mother and you FMIL (yes it's right) friends? My mom is so against save the dates but I'm doing it anyway and will just send her one in the mail

I wasn't going to do epics because I didn't really understand the use for them either but my friend offered to do them so we figured why not. We decided to use them for the save the dates and as an opportunity to have some nice pictures of us in our house since most of the ones we have are of us out partying with our friends! My pics are in my album

It is your choice, I don't think they are necesary but it was fun and they will come in handy if you want to do save the dates, put pics on your wedding website, etc.

I'm doing save the dates because I'm having my wedding in the summer when people go on vacation, etc. It's also on a sunday so I want to make sure people know in advance they may have to take off on monday (out of towners).

Just another quick side note about the E-Pics....if they are included in your photography package....they are a REALLY good way to get comfortable in front of your photographers camera. It helps them get to know you and for you to see how they work!

It also helped Fh and I 'practice' taking pictures together, seeing what angles were best for us etc so we will be better prepared for the day of!

Okay question number three...lol

My ring boy is ...13 years old! ACK! I know but hes so cute and hes my lil cousin and will always be a lil boy to me and when I told him I wanted him to be the ring bearer, he freaked out. Like he totally lost it. lol My FH loves him too and even got hima badge from Michaels that says 'official ring bearer' . both my FH and lil cousin are obssessed with all things police related so he was ecstatic to say the least. Is he too old to be a ring bearer? because when i tell people ive already picked him they say 'awww' and then ask how old and i say 13 and their expression quickly changes from 'aww' to 'oh thats different' lol

I learned very quickly not to care what other other people think but we both come from such traditional italian and spanish families so EVERYONE has an opinion.


Trust me I have so many questions but I wont drive you guys insane...yet! =)

Enagagement pictures are really a choice. You don't have to get them but they are nice to have! Some photographers include them in your package. We got ours done and used the pics on the STDs that also came with our package.

STDs again are a choice. I think its a good idea to send them out because it gives your guests the date of your wedding early. People plan vacations and trips so if they know your date they wont plan anything for that day

yes, FMIL is an acronym we use!
you don't need to do anything, in any part of the wedding related process, but its all fund and up to weather you want to do them or not.

epics are fun! they are pics that you will have forever and a fun way to capture fun memories with your FH
i sent out my STD's with the epics that we took.
if you want to so them, don't let anyone talk you out of them because of what they think may or may not happen and what has happened to others.

i think 13 is a little too old to b e a ring bearer. i would probably promote him to be my junior groomsman and he can still carry the ring. usually ring bearers are much younger.
