New Last Name - Feelings?

Anyone have mixed feelings about taking on your new last name?!?

Super excited to be a new family with a new last name but a part of me is having withdrawal at the idea of being called by a new name....identity crisis?

you said it perfectly...it's just all very strange - especially since i'll now be a 'd...' for longer than i am my maiden name....

i try to remember it's just a name - it doesn't change WHO i am or where i come from.

i also think it'll be easier to accept when there are kiddies around.

I can totally understand that.....it's definitely a big change. I only have hesitation because my new last name is very very PLAIN and I love my current one. It's hard to imagine my students calling me by my new last name but yet i'm excited for it at the same time.

I like my new last name, but I hate writing it. My signature looks like a little kid just learning cursive.

I am not changing my name officially. If people call me Mrs. S..., that is fine.

But I will be introducing myself as Ali G...

I'm so used to my own name, and all my accomplishments have been mine, under my identity.

it feels weird taking his name, as much as I like it, and sounding like a family, it's not who I am.

but it is just a name i guess!!!

It's just weird to accept, I'm super excited and agree once the kiddies come GOD willing it will be easier to feel the family unit. I just had an awakening on a busniess trip when they called me Ms. A..... and I realized next year I would be Mrs. M!!! Craziness...I love my maiden name too!! THough my future married name is just as pretty and Italian!!

I definitely am having mixed feelings about this. My last name is Biancoviso, after I get married it will be Perez. I don't really think it matches me at all!! I am obviously going to take his last name because I feel like it is a symbol of us being together I just really don't want to give up mine!

I cannot wait to give it up!!! My friends always joke that I'll be moving up in the alphabet world...going from R to K!! My mailbox at school will be way on the other side of the room...I'm going to be in the first half of the alphabet...I'm going from 5 letters to 9 letter...BIG THINGS HAPPENING OVER HERE!

Seriously, though, I really don't like my last name and I just see it as a stepping stone for happiness in the rest of my life!

We both wanted to keep our last names, but we also felt it was an important for us to identify as being of the same family.

Therefore, we both combined our last names. I was Marx and he was Sherman. Now we are BOTH Marx-Sherman.

It's a little sad for me - because I'm the last person in my family with my last name. Plus I've had my name for the past 30 years... it just sounds so 'different' - it's going to get a lot of getting used to. However, I'm keeping my last name in some cases - like at work.
