Re: ***NEW Plus Size Bride Thread***

I'm plus-sized on the bottom but I have a petite frame on top, so let's just say that 1-piece dresses are usually a disaster on me! I got mine at Wedding Salon of Manhasset. The women there practically have first-person knowledge of each designer, and what cut changes they will make! It was awesome! Even though my dress is a 1-piece A-line (Alvina Valenta), they are cutting the top to be a 16 and the bottom a 20, AND they are cutting the top to be a D-cup so there's more in the front for the 'girls' and less in the back, so the proportion doesn't get all messed up. I had an incredible experience there ;)

Re: ***NEW Plus Size Bride Thread***

First -- YAY! I never knew this thread existed.

Second -- Can you ladies give me some suggestions about where to start trying on dresses? I'm finally ready (after 6 months...) to try on a few and I feel like so many places won't have a selection of plus size dresses..... I'd really appreciate the help!

I haven't been yet but David's Bridal has a large plus size selection

I did go to RK Bridal and they had a big selection

Also, if you try corset backs even if it is not your size you can get into them usually

Maybe! I'm going to try some on in the store and then have the dream dress shipped to me if I like the way some other chiffon dresses look...

Re: ***NEW Plus Size Bride Thread***

Hey Ladies!!

I have a question for those who have tried on already and may be the same shape as I.

I'm an apple shape so basically I'm all boobs and stomach, no waist, no hips.

What style did you find worked best for you? What gave you a shape and (sorry to be so blunt, but this is my worst fear) what didn't make you look like a big snowball in the gown?

Thanks for any help!

This is my problem as well on top of the fact that I am 5'11. I found that A-Line dress with the corsets helped the most because they pulled in my waistline. Also I found that ruching helped a lot.

I found my dress at Paradise bridal. Patty was amazing and was incredibly accommodating. I wasn't liking any of the plus size dresses she had me try on so she came up with a alternate plan. She put me in a crinoline skirt and would form the top of the regular misses dresses to my upper body and then lay the skirt over the crinoline so I could get the effect. In doing this, I got to see so many more options and ended up buying my dress there. I highly recommend Paradise Bridal.

Thanks! What a great idea! I will remember this and see if they will let me do the same.

Thanks again!

Re: ***NEW Plus Size Bride Thread***

I was dreading going gown shopping!! I put it off for so many weeks and I finally had to go. It was not as bad as I thought. I would defintly suggest trying on dresses higher than your actual size at first- I did that so I felt more comfortable right from the start!

I had a wonderful experinece at the Bridal Suite in Centerach!

Most places I went to had alot for me to try on - you can even try on not a plus size but with a coreset back!

I ended up having a great time -I just had to keep reminding myself that it is my day and I wanted to find the right dress!

Good luck :)

Re: ***NEW Plus Size Bride Thread***

the closer i'm getting towards my wedding, I'm REALLY not looking forward to dress shopping if I don;t lose enough weight. F.H really has this thing for strapless gowns and i REALLY wasn't feeling a strapless gown because I'm insecure about my arms....ughhhhhhh
