I'm Valerie, I've been engaged since March of 07, but because of some crazy family issues, we haven't been able to dedicate any time to planning our wedding until now.
My fiance and I planning on a 'short booking' and hope to get married in September or early October both to save money and because we just want to be married already. So far we have looked at some places and picked out our rings. That's it! So I'll need all the help I can get.
I have already found so much great information on this site and look forward to learning even more!

Congrats! Check out The Snapper Inn in Babylon (I think? Definitely near there). They have an outdoor pavilion for weddings and it's on the water ... it's not too popular but a really nice, laid back feel if that is what you are into. Food was excellent and I would think they may have a day open in september as they are not hugely popular for weddings (yet).

David's Bridal is really fast with their dresses - you do NOT need to take what's on the rack. And I know some girls say the stores are insane, and that the people are not friendly - but I had no problems. I would get it altered somewhere else, however. A private seamstress or tailor. I got my dress - from their Oleg Cassini line - in a WEEK! They have some amazingly beautiful dresses there (including mine ... ) for good prices.

Thanks again. I haven't done ANY dress shopping yet. I feel like they all look alike to me after a while. I do know that some places take a really long time to order so I'll definitely try David's Bridal. Honestly I feel like that is going to be the hardest part for me. I'm not too picky with anything else. Any other places that you don't have to wait six months for?

Congratulations! welcome to the 08 board. I bet you will be surprised when you have a relatively short booking period you can get some great deals. I got engaged in Feb and when I went looking at Milleridge Cottage and a few places my friend couldn't believe the deals they were offering . She said I got married 5 years ago and you quoted me a price much higher. The banquet manager said If her boss comes to her and says why do you have a Saturday open in 08 it won't be good. So, she offers great deals. If you have any questions let us know.........

Try The Wedding Center in Commack, my friends dress came in really fast.
