Hi everyone! I recently got engaged over Christmas. I am so excited!!! My FH and I are set on a September '09 wedding on a Saturday Afternoon. We just hit a bit of a snag, however. We started looking at places last weekend and are looking at a few more tomorrow. However, we just heard from the church where he wants to get married (I am not religious and have never been baptised, bat mitzvahed, nothing) and the earliest they start ceremonies on a Saturday Morning is 11:30AM. But... every reception hall we've visited so far that we like has a reception start time of 12pm! We are supposed to meet with the Deacon this week. Hopefully things work out because I love the idea of an afternoon wedding (plus it's much much cheaper) but I know my FH has always wanted to get married in a church.
Anyway... I am looking forward to posting here!

That is sticky... .. I don't know where you guys are looking to get married, but check out my RH (vineyard caterers), they have been nothing but super accommodating. You never know. Good luck!

Hi! Welcome and congrats! I have a Saturday afternoon wedding too and my cocktail hour doesn't start until 1:00. You should see if any places will bump back the time... night weddings dont usually start until 7 so that gives them an hour to set up.

Good Luck!!! It depends on the RH you chose and how close the church is. From all the people I know that have gotten married in a church they have always had an evening reception just due to the time logistics.

congrats and welcome! i know that the chateau la mar in lindenhurst will let you do a 1:30 start! which gives you time to have the church at 11:30

Thanks for the welcomes everyone... and the advice!
We are looking at a few places today - the Inn @ NHP, Westbury Manor, and Bridgeview Yacht Club. A couple of those seem out of my price range but I am still looking.
I really liked Timber Point but they have a 12pm start and 5pm end because they have evening weddings that start at 6:30. Luckily the church is in the middle of all the places I'm looking so I hope that helps.
